Arsenal v Chelsea Preview, Premiership, Sunday 24th January 2016

Arsenal are having a good season at the moment and are currently on course for their first premiership trophy in fifteen years. The hosts head into this game on Sunday afternoon having lost just one of their last five league matches played and with home advantage both the players and fans will be quietly confident about their chances in this one.

However, Arsene Wenger will probably be slightly concerned at the moment as with back to back draws against Liverpool and Stoke City, it has given other sides below them a chance to catch up and I’m not sure if Arsenal will still be the current league leaders come Sunday evening unless they can win this game against their arch rivals Chelsea.

Chelsea are just four points off the bottom three places in the league table and are still looking far from their best despite recent results having improved slightly on what we were seeing under Mourinho.

Guus Hiddink’s side were rather fortunate to snatch a draw last time out at home against Everton and with just one victory in their last five league games played, it does seem that a place in Europe next season looks pretty much impossible to achieve unless they can win the FA Cup and it will be interesting to see how they cope with a strong looking Arsenal side in this game.

Arsenal Team News:

The hosts have been boosted by the news that both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez have now both fully recovered from their recent injury problems and look likely to feature. Mohamed Elneny is in line to make his debut in the heart of midfield, but Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla, Tomas Rosicky, Jack Wilshere and Danny Welbeck continue to remain on the sidelines as they recover from respective injury related problems.

Chelsea Team News:

The visitors welcome back Eden Hazard to the squad but manager Guus Hiddink has stressed that the Belgium International is unlikely to play the full 90mins due to his lack of match fitness. Diego Costa has shrugged of a knock picked up in the 3-3 draw against Everton last time out and will lead the attack up front.

Arsenal v Chelsea Head to Head Statistics:

Sunday afternoon’s match from the Emirates Stadium will become the 165th meeting between the two clubs over the years. Arsenal have managed to secure 62 victories overall with 37 of these having come with home advantage, where as Chelsea have managed 54 victories overall with 23 of those having came away from home.

Our head to head statistics table below shows the last five matches played between the two clubs and as we can see it has been Chelsea who have had much the better of it in recent season’s having managed to win three times, compared to Arsenal having won once and the remaining game finishing up all square.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

440 Goals have been scored in the previous 164 matches played between the two clubs over the years, which provides us with an average goals per game statistic of 2.68.

227 of those Goals have been scored in the previous 82 matches played between the two clubs at the Emirates Stadium which generates us an average goals per game statistic of 2.77.

Both sets of statistics seem to suggest that this game should see between at least 2 or 3 Goals scored on Sunday afternoon and betting markets such as Both Teams to Score, Total Match Goals 2 or 3 and Over 2.5 Goals look the best choices from the online bookmakers.

Arsenal v Chelsea Match Betting Odds Market

Arsenal have been installed as the clear favourites to win this game on Sunday afternoon and are currently a best price available of 11/10 with with Bet365 – £200 Matched Bonus Bets for New Customers Registering an Account and I can certainly see plenty of takers with the way the hosts have been playing this season.

The Draw has happened once in the previous five meetings played between the two clubs over recent seasons and with both sides having had a few draws in their recent matches a draw could be a sensible cover bet choice in this game and this can be backed at a current best price of 5/2 with SkyBet – Bet £5 & Receive £20 Free Bets for New Customers Registering an Account.

Chelsea are not looking much better than they did under sacked Jose Mourinho and with their defence still having serious problems keeping out the goals at the back this is going to be another very tough game for the visitors and I don’t see many people being that tempted by their current best price of 3/1 with Coral – Bet £5 & Receive £20 Free Bets when Registering a New Account.

Arsenal v Chelsea Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Arsenal have definitely been the better side this season as we only have to look at the premiership league table to establish this and with some key players back from injury the hosts do look the more likely winners in my opinion as Chelsea continue to struggle keeping clean sheets on a regular basis.

The head to head statistics do throw up an interesting argument though in favour of Chelsea as they have had by far the better results when the two sides have met in previous seasons and with players like Diego Costa, Willian and Fabregas they do have a very strong attack and I can see the visitors scoring in this game.

The decision then remains whether or not Arsenal can score at least twice as I think they are going to need at least two goals if they are to win this game and if we take a closer look at their home form over the past few months it does show them having scored a minimum of two goals in all but one of their previous six home games, so based on those statistics, I do see Arsenal winning this match.

Onto some predictions then and my Banker Free Tip for this game is going to be for Arsenal to Win as with an excellent record at the Emirates Stadium this season and having a couple of their key players back involved I do think that they will prove just that little bit stronger than Chelsea on the day and win this match 2-1 or 3-1.

My First Goalscorer Free Tip will be for Arsenal striker Oliver Giroud to score the first goal of the game as the French International has been very clinical in front of goal both on the domestic and International front over the last seven months and his current odds on offer do look good value for a player that has scored five first goals for his club.
