Arsenal v Coventry Preview, FA Cup, Friday 24th January 2014

Arsene Wenger has issued a warning to his Premiership topping side, that complacency should be warned against and not to take anything for granted against a Coventry City side who sit mid table in League One. Arsenal have won six games on the trot recently and will look to continue that result in Fridays FA Cup 4th round. Trophies have become a thing of dreams for Arsenal in so many years and with them playing in such great form they are considered as serious contenders for a Premiership title push.

Coventry City players and fans are very excited for this FA Cup tie on Friday and are raring to go out and attempt a win at The Emirates Stadium. After an impressive display against Barnsley in the 3rd round, Leon Clark managed to win the day with an 89th minute winner and sending them through. Coventry City did go 1 – 0 down in the first half and dug deep in the 2nd half and managed an equalizer with twelve minutes left on the clock to play.

Arsenal Team News:

Arsene Wenger’s side have been hit hard with injuries recently with Theo Walcott now out for six months after being stretchered off against Tottenham Hotspurs in the 3rd round of the FA Cup. We also see Bendtner(ankle), Arteta(calf), Vermaelen(knee), Aaron Ramsey(thigh), Sanogo(back) and Diaby(crucial knee ligaments) also missing from the starting eleven.

Coventry Team News:

I cannot see any information regarding any injury worries for Steven Pressley’s side with a majority of the news surrounding the club about how excited the players and fans are for this huge encounter. Coventry’s strike force have been in great form this season with Leon Clark netting fifteen times in twenty three games as well as 21 year old Callum Wilson who has hit fourteen times in twenty three. Also in form in the young German Franck Moussa who has scored elven times from the midfield so far this season.

Arsenal v Coventry Head to Head Statistics:

In the large 5 head to head statistics we can see Arsenal the more dominant force and even if we look deeper into the past with the 69 games played in total, we can see that Arsenal have won 38 to Coventry’s 13. We also see 18 draws total with Coventry earning 9 of them away from home.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 69 games played previously we see 165 goals scored in total which would give us an average of 2.4 goals per game. But in this game these two sides are in very different circumstances with Arsenal top of the Premiership and Coventry City plying their trade in League One.

Arsenal v Coventry Recent Form (Left to Right)

Arsenal: W W W W W

Coventry: D D W W D

Arsenal are flying high atop the Premiership table right now and won six games in a row so are clearly in very good form right now. Coventry City are eleventh in League One and have been in reasonable form in recent months.

Arsenal v Coventry Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

I’m looking forward to this game on Friday night and can actually see it being a close match if Coventry City don’t concede too early in the game. If they do go down to an early Arsenal goal then I can see the home side severely punishing the League One side with a hat-full of goals scored in two halves.

Arsene Wenger has warned his side not to be complacent against Coventry on Friday in fear that the underdogs will come at them strong in hope to grab a goal or two themselves, and with the injuries Arsenal have it couldn’t be a better time for Coventry to face Arsenal in what will feel like a Cup Final on Friday.

Regardless of the if’s and buts I still feel this will be an easy win for the Premiership winning side and can see a fair few goals scored over the 90 minutes. So my first prediction if for the miss firing Frenchman Giroud to score and for Arsenal to win which isn’t giving the best odds but could still prove fruitful. The other I am going for is both teams to score and Arsenal to end the game as winners.
