Everton v Liverpool Preview, Premiership, Saturday 23rd November 2013

With Saturdays game set to be a classic it will also be Everton manager Roberto Martinez’s first taste at a Merseyside derby. With David Moyes leaving for the dream job replacing Sir Alex Ferguson the door was open for the Spaniard to set foot back into the Premiership after being relegated with Wigan who also managed to win the FA Cup that year. With Everton making a great start under Martinez he will be looking to continue their good form with a much needed win over bitter rivals Liverpool. A feat that hasn’t been achieved since back in 2010.

Liverpool are expecting a tough battle when they visit Goodison Park on Saturday, with Everton now a stronger side since previous years we have seen Martinez replace David Moyes and experience an incredible start with only being 3 points off Liverpool who are themselves in 2nd position in the league. We also have David Agger stating that he is also expecting a tough test in this seasons first Merseyside derby encounter. With Liverpool in their strongest form in some years some are saying its just too early for them to be considered as title contenders.

Everton v Liverpool Team News

Everton Team News:

Martinez has given warning to Ross Barkley to focus purely on his Everton career with the youngster recently playing for England in previous friendlies. With 3 caps now to his name Barkley is starting to show his true potential with some convincing performances both for Everton and England. Martinez wants him to concentrate on playing for his club so he can continue to build upon his explosive start to professional football.

Liverpool Team News:

Sad news for Liverpool and fans alike, with defender Jose Enrique having to pull out of the game on Saturday after suffering a set back with his long term knee injury. After suffering for most of the season the Spanish left back is now likely to require surgery to fix the issue. Which leaves manager Brenden Rodgers short having only loan signing Aly Cissokho as cover as youngster Jack Robinson is currently playing his football for Blackpool on a season long loan.

Everton v Liverpool Head to Head Statistics

Over the years it has been Liverpool who pretty much dominate the derby with Everton’s last win back in 2010. Although the last two encounters have been much tighter with both ending in draws. This would say to you that Everton are showing themselves as a stronger side than in previous years. Under David Moyes reign we have seen Everton climb from a relegation side to a team who now fight for a top 6 spot.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

With 2.4 goals scored from 12 goals in the last 5 head to head statistics it would give us the indication that we may well see some some goals Saturday lunchtime. Although the last encounter ended goalless I just can’t see this one following suit when some serious places are up for grabs.

Everton v Liverpool Recent Form (Left to Right)

Everton: D D W W L

Liverpool: W L W D W

The Reds in Merseyside are the better team in form right now with that extra win over Everton in regards to form. In the league however there is only 3 points splitting these two fierce rivals. With Liverpool in 2nd and Everton in 6th, Saturdays game is going to be an exciting one.

Everton v Liverpool Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Whoa can hardly contain the excitement for this match, its got everything going for it for any true fan of either side or for the neutral like myself. Must admit though its a tough one to call but in the long run I do plan to go for an Everton win. I could go into details here for a correct score prediction, but that’s going to be so tough so think I will play safe and put my money on an Over/Under bet as well as a goal scorer. (Mine would be an Everton 1 – 0 win if I was forced to make a choice!)

So on the day once I sit down with a nice cool bottle of beer and a packet of McCoy’s crisps to be extra manly, I will place my money on an Under 1.5 goals over the 90 minutes. Don’t get me wrong I can see a lot of attacking football on the day, but feel strongly that only 1 goal may sneak through.

My other prediction comes as a WINCAST with Romelu Lukaku to score and Everton to WIN which could prove to be quite lucrative.
