Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal Preview, Capital One Cup, Wednesday 23rd September 2015

It seems Tottenham Hotspurs have now kick started their season into full swing having now won three games on the trot. The last time Spurs lost a game was the first game of the season when they visited Old Trafford and came away losers against Manchester United. Their latest opponents Crystal Palace have certainly been a side tough to beat this season with them still sitting just above Spurs even though they Palace lost at the weekend 1 – 0. It’s always great when you see two of the biggest names in Premiership history clash heads in the domestic cups, and who better to see than the famous London derby with Spurs facing bitter rivals Arsenal.

Much debate about this weekends loss against Chelsea, with referee Michael Dean apparently under investigation having sent off Gabriel Paulista before half time, and then Cazorla ten minutes before time. Both sending offs followed two yellow card offences and the shocking part of the Paulista situation was Diego Costa himself avoided a straight red card offense. That has now been fixed however, with the FA now having viewed the footage and banned Diego Costa for three matches. The loss against Chelsea was the second loss in a row, with Arsenal also losing during the week in the Champions League against Dinamo Zagreb away from home.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News:

Tottenham Hotspurs have four players currently on the injury table, with Nabil Bentaleb the only one who will 100% be missing come Wednesday with an ankle issue. Dembele (ankle) and Ryan Mason (knee) both have around a 75% chance of playing on Wednesday, but right now we have no confirmation of the team selection. Alex Pritchard is the only other player missing and is 50/50 for this Capital One Cup clash after picking up an ankle injury for the England under 21’s.

Arsenal Team News:

Gabriel Paulista and Cazorla both miss the game against Tottenham Hotspurs on Wednesday having been sent off against Chelsea at the weekend. As for injuries Arsenal have four players missing for this game, with Coquelin (knee) the only one with a potential chance in being fit come Wednesday. Tomas Rosicky (knee), Danny Welbeck (knee) and Jack Wilshere (ankle) have all been long term injuries.

Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head battles it is Arsenal who have been the better side with three wins, a draw and a single loss, and it comes as no surprise when we see it is Arsenal who have been the better team over the years with 67 wins, 51 loses and 44 draws for a total of 162 games played against each other.

In the last five games played in all competitions we can see it is in fact home side Tottenham Hotspurs who are the better team in form right now and could very well be the favourites to win this match having won their last three games. Where as Arsenal have now lost their last two games, and come into this game missing two important players due to suspension.

Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Capital One Cup action this week will see two ancient enemies clash swords once again in a bid to install their dominance on the English capital. The game featuring Tottenham Hotspurs verses Arsenal can be seen live on Sky Sports 1 High Definition with a Wednesday night kick off that promises to bring about all the excitement you expect from a London derby. Arsenal may well be away from home on Wednesday, yet are still the bookmakers favourites to win the game even though they have recently lost their last two fixtures.

Arsenal may of lost their opening game of the season but soon bounced back and looked to be doing very well up until last weeks fixtures. The managed to lose midweek in the Champions League and then at the weekend against Chelsea 2 – 0. They even went two men down with the first to depart on the strike of half time, even though there was far too much controversy with Chelsea striker Diego Costa not getting a straight red card for violent conduct. Tottenham Hotspurs also lost their first game of the season, but have since then bounced back with three draws and now three more recent wins.

My predictions for this game is certainly proving hard to come by, and I feel playing safe can only be the correct way to move forward. So for the first I feel going for 0 to 2 goals scored on the night is a good way forward, especially when looking at their last six head to head meetings played. The next I am going for is for an anytime goal scorer selection, although its a tough one to pick with me wanting to back Harry Kane or Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez. My selection will be below but feel free to select any of the two, even though the England striker hasn’t exactly hit the net recently I am sure he will come good anytime soon.
