West Brom v Chelsea Preview, Premiership, Sunday 23rd August 2015.

West Bromwich Albion will fancy their chances at home this coming Sunday, even though they do face last years Champions Chelsea. I see this because Chelsea have not enjoyed their start to this seasons Premier League campaign having lost in the Community Shield as well as then drawing with Swansea City. Not only that they then played away from home to Manchester City and got humiliated via a 3 – 0 solid defeat. That said West Brom also lost 3 – 0 to Manchester City and then draw away from home to Premiership newcomers Watford in a goalless game. the away side here will still be the favourites to win via the bookmakers, although the odds on Tony Pulis’s side coming away with a win will be a lot better due to their opponents current losing form.

Chelsea have been in the news a lot recently having signed Barcelona’s winger Pedro after meeting his buyout clause. Manchester United were thought to also be after the Spain international although apparently pulled out of the deal before Chelsea came in. Other news has also seen Jose Mourinho linked with Juventus and France midfielder Paul Pogba, although the Italian Champions have insisted he is still not for sale at any price. Chelsea will be after a win come Sunday after a terrible start to their campaign, having lost twice and drawn once in their opening three games Mourinho will be certain to make sure his side come away with all three points.

West Brom Team News:

West Bromwich Albion only have the one injury right now which is goalkeeper Ben Foster with his crucial knee ligaments. Striker Saido Berahino will once again be set to start even though the youngster has been under constant speculation regarding his future. Spurs have already had a bid rejected and talks of another incoming bid is still yet to happen as The Baggies stance still states that the player is not for sale. Arsenal loanee Serge Gnabry is now match fit and could possibly start this Sunday.

Chelsea Team News:

Pedro and other new signing Rahman may possibly make their débuts this Sunday after recently signing and making the registration date before tomorrows kick off. Thibaut Courtois is set to return after his one match ban leaving Asmir Begovic to once again warm the bench. Terry should start as well even though he was substituted at half time against Manchester City last weekend.

West Brom v Chelsea Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head meetings between these two Premier League clubs you would of expected Chelsea to have dominated completely. Yet that is far from the truth seeing as though the champions have only won twice in the last two years against West Brom. The last time these two met we did see West Brom smash Chelsea at home in a 3 – 0 romp, although a repeat of that on Sunday should be highly unlikely. In total there have been 102 encounters with Chelsea winning 44 and West Brom enjoying 33 victories, meaning the remaining 25 meetings have ended as draws.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 102 games played since the two have featured against each other, there has been a total of 322 goals scored. This is going to give us an average of 3.1 goals per game which to be honest is pretty much spot on when looking at the majority of fixtures in the above table. The below option on Sunday could very well be a good option, with Chelsea set to be looking to grab their first win of the season.

In the last five games played it is actually West Bromwich Albion who come out on top with the better form. That said their three wins were during pre-season. Chelsea have played Arsenal and Manchester City already this season, having lost to Arsenal in the Community Shield and then City in the league last weekend. They are still favourites to actually win on Sunday even though they are away from home.

West Brom’s last fixture against Chelsea was last season and at home in which they managed to surprise the world and hammer in three goals against the now English Champions. West Brom v Chelsea Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Premier League football this Super Sunday can be seen live on Sky Sports 1 High Definition and features West Bromwich Albion welcoming the Champions Chelsea to The Hawthorns. The last time Chelsea played here they will want to forget the result seeing as though they were embarrassed by three goals to nil. Luckily enough for Jose Mourinho’s side that result didn’t effect them eventually lifting the Premiership trophy and it will be certainly something the club want to retain come the end of the season.

Chelsea didn’t really enjoy their pre-season tour having only won four of their six friendly fixtures, even though they did record wins against Barcelona and French champions PSG. The games were won on penalties in the International Champions Cup in which PSG went on to win in the final having beaten Manchester United. Since pre-season Chelsea have lost in the Community Shield against Arsenal and also been humiliated by Manchester City at The Etihad stadium 3 – 0. They have earned one point at least which was against Swansea City at The Bridge, a result which wasn’t seen as the best having also seen Thibaut Courtois sent off before the hour mark.

My predictions for Sundays game does back Chelsea to win in both, as surely they cannot continue this season without a win in the four fixtures? So for the first lets go for Chelsea to win 2 – 1 with a correct scoreline prediction. The next I am thinking about is both teams to score and for Chelsea to win after the ninety minutes. I say this as I do feel Chelsea’s defence can currently be quite shaky, which could allow a goal from a West Brom striker such as Ricky Lambert.
