Real Madrid v Bayern Munich Preview, Champions League, Wednesday 23rd April 2014

Real Madrid will head into this match with high spirits after beating rivals Barcelona to the Cope del Rey Cup trophy. Their 2 – 1 win with goals from Angel di Maria and Welshman Gareth Bale was enough to see off Bartra’s 68th minute goal and would of ended the week for Barcelona with even more bitterness after throwing away the La Liga to Granada the week before. Real Madrid are currently six points behind the La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid but do have a game in hand so could close that gap with 5 games left to play.

Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich seem to have thrown their morals out of the window this month after already being crowned the champions. With two loses this month in the league it is an unheard of feat after not losing a game until then. Their last two games have been more productive though after beating Kaiserslautern 5 – 1 in the DFB Pokal semi finals and are set to face Borussia Dortmund who they recently lost 3 – 0 to at home. Bayern Munich have only ever won once against Real Madrid in Spain which was back in 2001 where the game ended 1 – 0. Luckily for the Bundesliga Champions Real Madrid have never won against Bayern Munich on their own turf.

Real Madrid Team News:

Experienced goalkeeper Casillas should be set to start again with the Spanish legend only being used in the Champions League and Cope del Rey fixtures this season. Sadly for Real Madrid they will be missing the clubs top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo who has so far scored 14 goals this season. The attacker is out with a knee injury until further notice. Arbeloa is also out with a knee issue while Sami Khedira and Jese Rodriguez have more serious issues with crucial ligament damage.

Bayern Munich Team News:

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will no doubt start for this game with the German stopper being in fine form this season. The clubs top scorer in the Champions League is Thomas Muller who has so far scored five times in ten of his appearances this season. Robben is close behind with four goals and is always a threat down the flanks as shown against Manchester United in the last round.

Real Madrid v Bayern Munich Head to Head Statistics

In the last 5 head to head encounters we can see it is Real Madrid who win the challenge with 3 wins and 2 loses. In total they have played 10 games against each other where Bayern Munich are the better side with 6 wins to Real Madrid’s 3. Looking back through the games there has only ever been 1 away win which was by Bayern Munich when these two first met in 2001.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In these 10 games that have been played in the past we have seen 26 goals which is giving us an average of 2.6 goals per game. With looking at the above table the last 3 games are spot on with this average so I would feel safe using this as a good tip for placing a bet.

Real Madrid v Bayern Munich Recent Form (Left to Right)

Real Madrid: W W L W W

Bayern Munich: L W L W W

We cant say too often this year that Bayern Munich have two loses in their last five games and I can only imagine they have relaxed slightly after winning the Bundesliga a few weeks back now. Real Madrid may of lost to a German side in the Champions League a few weeks back but still managed to progress due to the aggregate. This however will be a game they do not wish to lose with playing at home for the 1st leg of the semi finals.

Real Madrid v Bayern Munich Match Betting Odds Market

Real Madrid will be only slight favourites for this game with having the home advantage, and they should also remember their opponents have only won once before at this ground back in 2001. The bookmakers are setting the best odds found here @ 7/5 with Betfred (£10 Free Bets, No Deposit for New Customers Registering an Account).

The Draw I feel will be a good option although the result has only been seen once before in the past. The bookmakers are not as confident as myself with the result and have set the odds up to reflect that with the best found here @ 13/5 with Bet365 – £200 Free Bets For New Customers Registering an Account.

Bayern Munich are seen as close favourites for the win here on Wednesday even though the home team usually come out as victors in the last nine encounters between these two sides. Real Madrid v Bayern Munich Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Wednesday nights Champions League Semi Final action hosts two of the worlds biggest teams on Sky Sports 1 HD and I for one am extremely excited to sit and watch this with a nice cold beer. Bayern Munich are the only side of these two who have won away from home and even though that result came back in 2001 I can still see the German Champions recreate that result.

Real Madrid come into this match as cup winners after beating rivals Barcelona in the Cope del Rey Final last weekend, and Bayern Munich are set to play their domestic cup final soon and are to face Borussia Dortmund once more. Dortmund beat Bayern last week 3 – 0 on their home turf which would of been a knock to the teams confidence I am sure.

Bayern Munich are still the team to beat this year and have only been bested three times this season. I am going to back both teams for a win here on Wednesday and I do also see both teams scoring on the night which will play some part in one of my bets. My first will be for Real Madrid to win 2 – 1 on the night with the next prediction to be Bayern Munich to win but both teams to score.
