Manchester United v Newcastle United Preview, Premiership, Saturday 22nd August 2015.

It’s three wins from three for Manchester United in the opening of this season and the bookmakers are seeing the Red Devils as favourites to continue their winning run this Saturday at Old Trafford against Newcastle United. The clubs midweek game was in the Champions League qualifier first leg at home to Belgian side Club Brugge, in which Van Gaal’s men came out on top 3 – 1 winners after going one goal down via a Michael Carrick own goal. Manchester United equalized five minutes later when Memphis Depay scored his first goal for the club and then scored again just before half time with an out of the box curler beating the keeper. Going into the second leg in Belgium just 2 – 1 could of been dangerous and they searched hard for a third goal against ten man Brugge. Fellaini came off the bench to replace captain Wayne Rooney and just before the referee went to blow his whistle a ball was whipped in by Depay only for the huge Belgian to head home in front of the home crowd.

Newcastle United only just avoided relegation last season which could of gone down to a few different results. Yet did manage to win and avoid that dreaded drop to the Championships. Now under new management the club did start his season with a 2 – 2 draw at home to Southampton who were themselves very strong last season. The clubs second Premiership game though wasn’t as successful with them losing 2 – 0 away from home to Welsh side Swansea City. This fixture against Manchester United, and their next against Arsenal at home do not look promising for a club who will no doubt be fighting for points come the end of the season. After these two tough fixtures they do then have to face West ham United away and newcomers Watford at home in September.

Manchester United Team News:

Manchester United are still without Phil Jones who has mild thrombosis, and also Tuesdays goalscorer Marouane Fellaini due to his three match suspension received last season. Manchester United have been constantly in the transfer news lately and recently missed out on Pedro of Barcelona who has just signed for London side Chelsea.

Newcastle United Team News:

Newcastle United are carrying a few injuries at the start of the season with Welshman Paul Dummett being the first with a hamstring strain. We next have two French players missing with Emmanuel Riviere out due to his knee and then Sylvain Marveaux with a groin strain.

Manchester United v Newcastle United Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head encounters the home side Manchester united have pretty much dominated with just the one loss and four wins. In total we have 140 meetings between the two historic clubs in which Manchester United come out on top with 70 wins to Newcastle Uniteds 24. Which then leaves 36 encounters ending as draws with the last one seen back in 2011 at Old Trafford in the Premiership.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 140 games played between the two clubs we have seen a total of 477 goals scored which is going to give us an average of 3.4 goals per game. In three of the above fixtures you could feel safe in knowing that an over 2.5 goals scored bet would be a good choice. However Manchester United haven’t started the season scoring a bagful of goals, and Newcastle United are little better off having also scored twice.

Newcastle United had a bad pre-season and also haven’t kicked off their campaign showing much hope of an upcoming win. Where as Manchester United did very well pre-season and have also started this season with three wins from three games, and with them being at home and the team in better form, would be the bookmakers favourites of a solid win come Saturday lunchtime.

Manchester United v Newcastle United Match Betting Odds Market

Manchester United are the clear and solid favourites for the win come Saturday at Old Trafford, which will make in three Premier League wins on the trot, a far better record than that of last seasons opening games. The bookmakers best current odds on Van Gaal’s side to win can be seen coming in here @ 2/5 with Betfred – Bet £10 Get £30 Free Bets for New Registering Accounts

The Draw is a result seen 36 times in the past with the last of them coming way back in 2011 and at Old Trafford. However I cannot see Manchester United dropping points this weekend as Newcastle are currently a side struggling to keep out goals. Newcastle United did manage a win over their opponents the season before last when David Moyes took charge, and it was even at Old Trafford which did leave the fans angry come the end of the ninety minutes. Since then however they have struggled against Manchester United and certainly do not look favourites for Saturdays game. Manchester United v Newcastle United Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Premiership action this Saturday lunchtime comes live from BT Sports 1 High Definition and features hosts Manchester United at Old Trafford against last season strugglers Newcastle United. In the last ten meetings Manchester United have beaten their opponents on six occasions and only lost the twice. leaving the last two most distant games in 2011 ending as draws. Newcastle United can keep hope of beating the Manchester club, as they can certainly achieve it with the last time being back in the 2013/14 season when David Moyes took charge. The Scot didn’t even last until the end of the season sadly and we did eventually see Manchester United finish in a dismal seventh position.

Manchester United enjoyed a great pre-season only losing the once against PSG in the International Champions Cup final. Since then they have won three games in a row with two being Premier League fixtures against Tottenham Hotspurs and Aston Villa. We also witnessed Manchester United beat Club Brugge 3 – 1 in their Champions League Qualifier although do need to travel away from home for the second leg next Wednesday. Newcastle United however only won two of their pre-season friendlies, while drawing the once and losing a massive four. The clubs are not even worth mentioning with the toughest of them being that of Sheffield United. A draw and a loss so far in the Premiership campaign and if they want to stay up this season will need to start picking up good wins.

My predictions for this Saturdays fixture does of course back Manchester United for the win, as they are at home and a team in far superior form to that of Newcastle United. I am hoping England striker Wayne Rooney opens this seasons goals account, as he is certainly not a stranger when it comes to scoring against Newcastle United. So for the first lets go for a Wayne Rooney goal and a Manchester United win. With the next prediction being that of Manchester Uniteds new number 7 scoring yet again, this time being a Premiership goal after he scored twice in the Champions League last Tuesday.
