Belgium v Russia Preview, World Cup, Group H, Sunday 22nd June 2014

Before the start of this World Cup Belgium were most football fans outsiders after a run of good results and the amount of top class players they have among their team, however me personally I was a little bit disappointed when I watched their World Cup opener against a very organised outfit that was Algeria.

Algeria took the lead early on only to see substitute Marouane Fellaini rise highest to head in an Eden Hazard cross to level the match. Once again it was hazard who was provider, this time for Dries Mertens also come off the bench and get the winner win a fine strike to the top corner past a helpless Algerian goal keeper.

Russia will be feeling a little bit disappointed to come away from their World Cup opener with just a point after levelling Against South Korea. Russian goal keeper Akinfeev struggled as he couldn’t catch the ball all night and also looked very nervous on crosses, which South Korea didn’t capitalise on enough throughout the 90 minutes.

Belgium Team News:

Belgium Manager might make a couple one or two changes for this match, as Everton man Kevin Mirallas didn’t take part in the any of the first match with Tottenham’s Nacir Chadli preferred on the wing. Romelu Lukaku is expected to keep his place as the lone striker, however Fellaini might fancy himself their after this goal the other night.

Russia Team News:

Russia Manager Fabio Capello is expected to name an unchanged eleven to face Belgium come Sunday night, as they were very unlucky not to come away with all three points against South Korea.

Belgium v Russia Head to Head Statistics:

Belgium and Russia have met three times over the years, of which it’s the Europeans who have the advantage as they have won twice, with one match ending in a draw. Two of them were friendly matches, which Belgium won 2-0 and the other was a 0-0 draw.

In the previous three meeting between the two clubs, we have seen a total of 7 goals, which generates us with an average goal per game ratio of 2.33. So looking at the statistics we should see a Belgium win with their being between two and three goals scored on Sunday Evening.

Belgium v Russia Match Betting Odds Market

Belgium will know that if they win this game against Russia They will definitely go through to the last sixteen, also they will probably top the group as well. The bookmakers have Belgium as clear Favourites in this one, as they current best price for a Belgium victory is 19/20 with SkyBet (£30 Free Bets for New Customers).

The Draw wouldn’t be a disaster for Belgium, as that would move their total points tally to 4 after two games. A draw for Russia wouldn’t be a bad result, however I feel if they are to progress they need more than a draw. The best price is coming in at 13/5 with BetVictor (£25 Free Bets for New Customers).

If Russia are to qualify I think they would probably need to win this tough fixture and if they manage it they would move top of the group ahead of Belgium, however its going to be very difficult against this organized Belgium outfit. The best price is 10/3 with Coral (Deposit £5 & Receive £20 Free Bets) for a Russian win. - £50 Free BetsDeposit £25 & Receive £50 Free Bets! New Customers Only, Limited Time Promotion

Belgium v Russia Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Belgium Head into this fixture knowing that a win would all but secure a place in the last sixteen of the World cup. Belgium have a lot of young talent and we have seen the likes of Adnan Januzaj who surprisingly was chose after a quite good first season at Manchester United. His teammate Marouane Fellaini hasn’t had the best of seasons for United, as he joined from Everton in 2013.

Russia know that a defeat in this game would be a big factor in whether they go through to the last sixteen, however it depends what happens in the other crucial game between Algeria and South Korea. Fabio Capello is a very experienced manager so I believe he will gear his players up for this encounter and he might even set out to draw the match as a point at this stage is quite crucial.

Taking all the statistics into account we should see Belgium taking all three points on Sunday evening with their being between two and three goals scored. I would also expect that Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku to score the first goal in the match.

Down to my predictions for this one and my Banker is going to be for Belgium to Score Two or more Goals in the match, as its quite good value for money and with the attacking players they have in their squad this could easily be achieved.

My Saver is a difficult one to chose but I am opting to go for a 2-0 Belgium Correct Score.
