England v Turkey Preview, International Friendly, Sunday 22nd May 2016

England will be looking to bounce back from their last fixture back at the end of March when they lost 2 – 1 to The Netherlands at Wembley Stadium. Especially when the previous match three days earlier see Roy Hodgson’s side beat Germany 3 – 2 away from home. Now that said we have seen England play exceptionally well since being knocked out in the World Cup in Brazil having only lost the two games in the last year.

England will be without the Manchester United and Liverpool contingent with a Europa League Final and FA Cup final to of been played. Liverpool sadly lost their fight in Switzerland even though they went 1 – 0 up on the night. They eventually lost the game 3 – 1 to Sevilla after some quick goals ruined the clubs night. Manchester United on the other hand enjoyed success at Wembley when they eventually beat Crystal Palace 2 – 1 in extra time having gone 1 – 0 down and also losing Chris Smalling to a 2nd yellow card.

Turkey will intend on being tough opponents this Sunday with them having not lost a game since November of 2014 when Brazil walked away 4 – 0 victors. Turkey had to qualify for the EURO’s via the play-offs and face tough opposition with Croatia, Czech Republic and Spain completing Group D. With the form Turkey are in however I would write off this sides chances of going far in the competition that starts in three weeks.

The last time Turkey were in a competition was way back in 2008 when we see it hosted in Austria and Switzerland. It was an exceptional performance by Turkey who managed to get all the way to the semi-finals and only just lost to eventual runners-up Germany with a 90th minute winner. Germany lost 1 – 0 to Spain in the final when Fernando Torres punished Germany with a wonderful goal.

England Team News

With the provisional England squad announced recently I can imagine we were all shocked to see the inclusion of Manchester United youngster Marcus Rashford. The 18 year old was injured in the FA Cup final on Saturday when he suffered a knock to his knee, although we are understood to believe it is not a serious problem. No United players will be linking up with this England squad due to them resting with recent games. Liverpool players will however meet up on Saturday for training, although wont feature.

Turkey Team News

Turkey have little injury worries coming into this friendly and coach Fatih Terim has selected a 31 man provisional squad ahead of their own campaign in Group D. Arda Truan of Barcelona will be looking forward to this game and will be a key player for the team both Saturday and the comptetition in three weeks time.

England v Turkey Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five games England have pretty much dominated against this Turkey side with four wins and a draw the last time these two met. In total we have ten games played out against each other, with England winning eight of the ten, and drawing twice in total. England have never conceded a goal against Turkey and will be looking to keep that record when they meet this Sunday evening.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the ten games these two nations have met, we have seen a total of 31 goals scored. This is going to give us a goals per game average of 3.1 and we can only hope to see that statistic come into play. I am going to go with the below selection for this international friendly.

England v Turkey Recent Form (Left to Right)

England: L W W L W

Turkey: WW D W W

In the last five games played it is in fact Turkey who are the side in better form right now having won four and drawn the once. I would say however it is England who are the better side having only lost twice since their World Cup exit in Brazil in 2014.

England v Turkey Match Betting Odds Market

England are the bookmakers favourites to win Sunday evening having never lost to this Turkey side. In fact they have also never conceded against Turkey which is exceptional in the ten head to heads they have experienced. The Draw is the only other result apart from an England win seen between these two nations, yet with the way Turkey have been playing I do feel a draw on Sunday could be a realistic result at Wembley. Turkey are in exceptional form right now and although they haven’t played in a major competition since 2008 they are still a team to fear. England v Turkey Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Its International friendly time with the EURO Championships just three weeks away from kicking off in France. Sunday we have England at home verses Turkey who have failed to make a competition since back in 2008 with we witnessed Spain win the EURO’s in Austria and Switzerland. Turkey however did do exceptionally well in that competition when they eventually faced defeat against Germany in the semi-finals 3 – 2 with a 90th minute winner.

England will want to forget the last tournament they played in, with them failing to get past an easy group in the World Cup hosted by Brazil. Since then however the side have played some exceptional football and have since only lost the twice in the last eighteen games. In other news the head to head statistics are looking good, with England never losing against the Turks, having won eight and drawn the remaining two fixtures. On top of that they have also never conceded a goal while firing in thirty one of their own.

Turkey will however fancy their chances of the countries first win over England, with the current side enjoying a ten wins and three draws since their last loss back in November 2014 when they welcomed Brazil who walked away 4 – 0 winners. To be fair though the toughest side has been The Netherlands who England did lose to back in March. Even though Turkey will be in high spirits they will need to be at their best as England are never a push over and will fancy their own chances of a win come Sunday.

My predictions for this game will of course back England to continue their exceptional history against Turkey with me both fancying the draw and a win for the home side. For my banker I am going to go with England to win the match with Premier League Champion winner Jamie Vardy as the scorer on the night which is giving some nice odds right now. The other I am going for is a correct scoreline bet of both teams to draw the match 1 – 1 on the night. It would mean Turkey will score their first goal against England, but at least the record of never losing to this side continues.
