Real Sociedad v Barcelona Preview, Primera La Liga, Saturday 22nd February 2014

Real Sociedad haven’t had the best of months having lost and drawn twice and won the more recent game and with this being the third time they face Barcelona in the month of February I cannot see them getting their form back together for that forth place finish that they are currently fighting for. They did manage to draw 1 – 1 with Barcelona in their 2nd leg of the Cope del Rey last week although they still left the competition having lost 3 – 1 on aggregate.

Barcelona return home to Spain and get back to business on Saturday after their easy win against Manchester City in the 1st leg of the knock out stages of the Champions League. The Primera Division has been fruitful for Barcelona this month as they once more took the top spot from Atletico Madrid although they now share the same points along with Real Madrid who sit third. Barcelona are the far better team here although they often come stuck when facing Real Sociedad at their own ground.

Real Sociedad v Barcelona Team News

Real Sociedad Team News:

Real Sociedad are missing a couple of players for this game with the likes  of Dani Estrada who is recovering from a thigh strain picked up at the end of January. We also see midfielder Granero out with his crucial knee ligaments since September even though he only featured in three games before that.

Barcelona Team News:

Barcelona’s injury list has considerably shrunk in recent weeks as the only crocked player is Jonathan dos Santos who is recovering from a crucial knee ligament operation and will unlikely feature at all this season. Santos has been missing since October which was a huge blow for Barcelona as the Mexican youngster was playing well in the sixteen appearances he made before hand.

Real Sociedad v Barcelona Head to Head Statistics

Barcelona have won the head to head battle in their last 5 meetings although Real Sociedad did manage 1 shock win. In total we have seen these two side meet 37 times in the past and Barcelona have won 23 times to Real Sociedad’s 5. Also we can see 9 draws with 8 of them seeing Barcelona away from home. Barcelona have also only won 5 times away from home which is something to consider.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the last 37 games played we have seen and impressive 120 goals scored which is giving us an average of 3.2 goals per game. Barcelona are away however so I am not sure the goal count will be as high as previous weeks.

Real Sociedad v Barcelona Recent Form (Left to Right)

Real Sociedad: W D D L L

Barcelona: W W D W W

Barcelona are in exceptional form right now both in the Primera Division and the Champions League after their recent performance where they brushed aside England’s best current team Manchester City win an easy 2 – 0 win. Real Sociedad are also in good form and their two loses in the last five games came at the hands of Barcelona in the Cope del Rey and Atletico Madrid in the La Liga.

Real Sociedad v Barcelona Match Betting Odds Market.

Real Sociedad for the win is possible but personally I do not see it happening on Saturday with the form Barcelona are in. The bookmakers best odds are currently set here @ 7/1 with Totepool (£10 Free Bets for New Customers).

The Draw is defiantly an option and I am surprised at such good odds especially as Barcelona don’t have a prolific win history at this ground. A draw is a great option and the best odds are currently coming in @ 17/4 with Stan James – Receive £10 Free Bets when Registering an Account

Barcelona are the clear favourites for this game even though their statistics are not the best when visiting this ground. More often than not the game ends in a draw but with their current form to consider this option would still be the stand out selection for me. Real Sociedad v Barcelona Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Saturdays la Liga game on Sky Sports 1 at 7pm offers to be an exciting one at that. With Barcelona already beating Real Sociedad twice this year and also drawing once in the Cope del Rey you would come to expect the Spanish Champions to complete a treble over their opponents. The statistics say that Barcelona’s away record at this ground isn’t the greatest with the result more often a draw if not a win.

With Barcelona’s form as of late and with the easy and comfortable win over Manchester City in the week to consider I personally do not see them struggling to come away from this game with a win on Saturday evening. Real Sociedad themselves are in a very respectable position in the league and have already held Barcelona to a draw at home this season which could well be possible again.

So lets get to the predictions, the two I am thinking of sees both Barcelona win away from home and then also a draw. The first being Barcelona to win and Alexis Sanchez to score. The other is for a total match goals of 2 – 3 which could well be on I feel.
