Southampton v Leicester City Preview, Premiership, Sunday 22nd January 2017.

Southampton may not be providing many wins in the Premiership as of late, yet they are doing well in both the League Cup and FA Cup. Having beaten Liverpool in the first leg at Southampton then now just need to go to Anfield and either win or draw to see themselves head into the final to either face Manchester United or Hull City who themselves are currently two goals down.

They were held up away from home against Championship side Norwich City but in the replay at Southampton the home side secured the 1 – 0 win to progress into the next round to face Arsenal at home. With the cups set aside Southampton will need to start winning games as they are consistently sliding down the table with them now in thirteenth place, just two positions higher than last years champions.

Talking about champions we are not exactly seeing anything near the performances we got to see last season from Leicester City. The club are just five points outside the relegation positions and if they are not careful could see themselves relegated to the Championships come the end of the season. They can’t even blame their results on losing players in the Summer as it was only Kante who jumped ship to Chelsea.

The next five Premiership games for the champions are going to be crucial as they have Manchester United and Liverpool to come. In the mix will be Burnley and Swansea City away from home which should really be some points in the bag for Leicester. The clubs last win was back during December where we got to see them destroy Manchester City 4 – 2 which was an incredible game to witness.

Southampton Team News:

Looks like we wont be seeing Steven Davis plating for Southampton this week as he still recovers from a knock he picked up against Burnley recently. that said we are likely to see Ryan Bertrand and Virgil van Dijk back in the starting line up with the pair being rested against Norwich City in the FA Cup replay. Jake Hesketh as well as Sofiane Boufal, Alex McCarthy, Charlie Austin and Matt Targett are all still out injured.

Leicester City Team News:

The Champions will be without striker Leanardo Ulloa who has a thigh strain, even though I can’t see him being picked due to putting in a transfer request. Another player out the door is Luis Hernandez who is currently in Spain to put pen to paper to take him to Malaga. Apart from that Leicester City have no other injury concerns.

Southampton v Leicester City Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head encounters we have seen champions Leicester City come out on top with two wins and a couple of draws and a loss, yet this season they are not like they were when they won the Premiership. In total they have met on 53 occasions with Southampton winning 21 and losing 16, while also drawing 16.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 53 games played we have seen a total of 150 goals scored which is going to give us a goals per game average of 2.8. We haven’t seen a ton of goals in four of the last five games played yet hopefully may well see at least a couple come Sunday. The below option could be a good selection I feel.

Southampton v Leicester City Recent Form All Competitions (Left to Right)

Southampton: W L W D L
Leicester City: L W D W L

Both clubs have each won two games in their last five played in all competitions while also drawing twice and losing the other. We can’t see either of the two sides here are in any type of good form and for me personally I would go for the home side to win come Sunday.

Southampton v Leicester City Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Premier League action this Sunday lunchtime comes from the St Mary’s Stadium and features home side Southampton verses last years champions Leicester City. The game can be viewed live via Sky Sports 1 and of course in high definition. We do see the home side as the clear and solid favourites for the win especially as it is Leicester City who seem to be struggling more so in the league.

that said Leicester City have managed to stun a few teams this season regardless of how bad they are playing, their last was the 4 – 2 victory over Manchester City back in December of last year. The clubs last league win was at the end of last year against West Ham United and the other recorded in the recent form was against Everton in the FA Cup 3rd round where the score ended 2 – 1.

A win on Sunday for the home side Southampton will see them jump two places into eleventh with Burnley then able to win a place back if they can manage to beat Arsenal away from home in the next live game just after 2 o’clock. If the away side manage a win themselves then they can of course move up a place into fourteenth as Watford in the end only managed a draw after going ahead against Bournemouth twice.

My predictions for this game are favouring a draw of some kind with the likelihood of both teams at least scoring the once. For that my banker will then be both teams to score and then to draw the game. The next I am going for is to predict more woe for the champions with them losing the game 2 – 1 on the day. The best odds for this correct score prediction can be found below.
