Arsenal v Manchester City Preview, Premiership, Monday 21st December 2015.

Who’d of thought it, Leicester City going into Christmas sitting atop the Premier League table ahead of the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Champions Chelsea. Arsenal themselves are playing exceptional right now and have won four of their last five games in all competitions, only dropping points to Norwich City at Carrow Road at the end of November. A win on Monday night for Arsenal will be tough but if managed will see them close the five point gap between them and Leicester City to just two, applying some pressure for the Boxing Day fixture. Although Arsenal are the favourites to win the game it will of course prove tough as Manchester City are also a team in good form right now.

Manchester City didn’t have the best of results in November having drawn against Aston Villa away from home and then to lose to Liverpool in your own back yard. The win at home to Southampton at the end of November did start to see them play better only to then lose away from home 2 – 0 to Stoke City! Meanwhile they did manage to top the Champions League group stages with a 4 – 2 win over Borussia Monchengladbach yet did require Juventus to lose their last game in which they incredibly managed to do so. Also they beat Hull City in the Capital One Cup and more recently Swansea City which was lucky after Swansea managed to equalize in the 90th minute, only for Manchester City to then grab a winner deep into injury time.

Arsenal Team News:

Arsenal see Alexis Sanchez return and declare himself fit, although he is likely to start on the bench and only be used if needed to not hurry him back from his hamstring injury. Sadly for Danny Welbeck his issues have got worse and his return date has now been pushed back to sometime in February with his knee still not right. Arsenal will be without midfielders Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin, which continue to add to Arsenal’s midfield issues with Thomas Rosicky, Jack Wilshere. Although Mikel Arteta could return if he passes his fitness test.

Manchester City Team News:

Manuel Pellegrini may start Sergio Aguero instead of Wilfried bony which could prove to be a mistake given that the Argentine is still not fully fit. They continue to lineup without club captain Kompany and Pablo Zabaleta and also see midfielder Fernando out until the New Year. Once again Samir Nasri is still missing and wont be seen again until around April.

Arsenal v Manchester City Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head encounters we do see a draw is reasonably common with two seen in the last two years. Arsenal have won twice which is good for them with City only winning the once. In total we have 166 fixtures played out between them with Arsenal extremely dominant with 85 wins, 40 draws and only 41 loses. Although Manchester City are now a far better team with the injection of cash seen over the last few years due to new rich owners.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 166 games played out between the two Premiership clubs we have seen a total of 464 goals scored and will give us a goals per game average of 2.8. The number of goals scored in a game between these two sides are so sporadic that it’s always going to be hit and miss when attempting to guess how many goals could possible be scored. I am going for the below option which is a good selection.

Manchester City: W W L W W

In the last five games played both clubs have been in good form with Arsenal the better having not lost a game. Manchester City did lose to Stoke City which did seriously dent their current league position leading up to Christmas. Arsenal are at home and favourites to win the game and see them close the gap between them and Leicester City.

Arsenal v Manchester City  Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Monday Night football this week features two of the Premier Leagues biggest teams who are both fighting for that league title come the end of the season. Manchester City travel to The Emirates in hope to continue their winning streak yet know it wont be easy as Arsenal are a team in great form and confidence right now. Arsenal are the bookmakers favourites to win the game although it wont be an easy victory due to the clubs massive injury list. They do see the potential return of Alexis Sanchez, although I can only see him being used if in serious need. But then Manchester City also see their talisman return in the likes of Sergio Aguero.

Manchester City are also a team in growing form yet can be hit and miss depending on the day. Much like the game against Stoke City and Aston Villa which will be a huge disappointment for the club and fans. They are still up there and only six points behind league leaders Leicester City and a win on Monday night will prove they have it in them to once again potentially win another league title. Both clubs have done exceptionally well in the Champions League recently with Manchester City finishing top of their group, while Arsenal pulled off the unlikely and managed an away win in Greece to see them also into the knock out stages of the competition.

Predictions for this game is as expected a tough one, with the win potentially going to either side and the draw not proving to be too popular a choice in my eyes. Arsenal are at home and the favourites to win the game but then Manchester City are also in with a shout as expected. I am going to go for both teams to score, yet for that alone it seems very pointless with the odds so poor. So adding Arsenal to also win the game gives us much better return for our money if the Gunners manage to pull it off. The other I am going for is Olivier Giroud to score at anytime and continue his scoring streak and silence his recent critics.
