Watford v Manchester United Preview, Premiership, Saturday 21st November 2015.

After a solid ending to the month of October we’ve now seen Watford go back to losing ways with an away visit to third place Leicester City. Watford went 2 – 0 down but did manage to grab a consolation goal with a Troy Deeney spot kick. Saturday will certainly be a tough fixture for the newly promoted side, with them only defeating Manchester United twice in the past with the last way back in 1986. Watford can be encouraged though as Manchester United head into the game having a number of injury issues, with the latest seeing French international Anthony Martial sidelined with his ankle.

Manchester United do seem to be back to winning ways now having got over that dry spot with three games played an zero goals scored. Before the international break Manchester United went top of their Champions League group with a late 1 – 0 win over CSKA Moskva. United pretty much dominated the game and played some great attacking football throughout the match, yet just couldn’t seem to do what mattered with scoring goals. Ten minutes from time however and we see club captain Wayne Rooney step up with a fine header to grab the winner. After this another victory followed, this time in the Premier League with a 2 – 0 win over West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford.

Watford Team News:

Watford only have a couple of injury worries, with their Spanish star Jose Jurado still nursing his hamstring. We then have Joel Ekstrand missing and wont be likely seen again anytime soon due to his ACL knee ligaments. So far this season Watford have been relying too heavily on Odion Jude Ighalo with the Nigerian so far scoring seven league goals, but is is great to finally see Troy Deeney start scoring with two goals in the last three games.

Manchester United Team News:

Michael Carrick was stretchered off against Spain during the international break, and his injury was feared to be far worse than it apparently is. Marouane Fellaini missed the game against West Bromwich Albion with a knock, and is still out this weekend. Wayne Rooney misses the match due to being ill since the France friendly. Anthony Martial is injured and United all of a sudden have a crisis with strikers. James Wilson could find himself starting Saturday and Memphis Depay could also start as he looks to prove why the club spent money on his transfer. Good news for United though, as in form defender Chris Smalling declares himself fully fit. Paddy McNair (abdominal strain), Luke Shaw (broken leg) and Valencia (ankle ligaments) are all still missing.

Watford v Manchester United Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five games Manchester United have dominated Watford with five easy wins. If Manchester United win on Saturday away from home, it will be the tenth win in a row for the Red Devils. In total the two have met 17 times, with Watford only winning on 2 occasions. United have won 11 games and drawn 4 in total.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 17 games played between these two clubs we have seen a total of 50 goals. This is going to give us an average of just over 2.9 goals per game, a result only seen once in the last five games played. Even away from home Manchester United seem to be able to bang in the goals, but we need to think about the situation right now at Manchester United, with their current striker crisis.

Watford v Manchester United Match Betting Odds Market

Watford have a great chance to regain some ground on Manchester United when looking at the head to head statistics. With them struggling for strikers the club really must play well to achieve a win. The Draw is a result I am leaning towards due to the striker crisis at Manchester United, with them missing Rooney and Martial they do not have any solid selection. Watford v Manchester United Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Premiership action returns this weekend after a rather hit and miss international week with lots of doawns rather than up’s. Yeah granted England did beat France 2 – 0 at Wembley, but the victory was still marred by the terror attacks in Paris a few days earlier. I really do feel for the French team as they clearly didn’t want to be there playing this game after being almost forced to by their FIFA President. England did also lose a game, with it being against the mighty Spanish. But nothing too bad can be taken from the game as even Spain struggled to score against England, and took most of the match trying to break down their opponents.

Anyway lets get back to Watford verses Manchester United. We see that Watford had a great couple of games with a win away from home to Stoke City and then also another 2 – 0 win the week after at home against in form West Ham United. Then lost away from home to Leicester City 2 – 1 who themselves are having an incredible season and currently sit in third in the table. Manchester United had a few games where they struggled to score yet did manage to keep a clean sheet, but eventually shook themselves out of it with a 1 – 0 win in the Champions League. They returned to Premiership action with a win at home against West Bromwich Albion before the international break, in which United managed to come out of it with a fair few injuries.

My predictions for this Premiership clash does of course back that of Manchester United to win and although the club don’t have any solid selections up front I still can see them scoring from somewhere. So for my banker I am just going to go with Manchester United to win the game to nil, as with Chris Smalling declaring himself fit I do feel the club can keep a clean sheet. The next I am going for is Manchester United to win the game and also for Mata to score at some point during the match. Something the Spaniard has had to do on a number of occasions since joining the club.
