Blackburn Rovers v West Ham United Preview, FA Cup 5th Round, Sunday 21st February 2016

Blackburn Rovers head into this game having secured their place in this 5th round tie with a convincing 3-0 victory away against Oxford United and the hosts will fancy their chances here with home advantage and a packed out Ewood Park Stadium fully behind them.

Blackburn have won the FA Cup six times, but you have to go all the way back to 1928 to find the last time they lifted the famous trophy and this will no doubt be a very difficult game for them on Saturday afternoon up against Premiership opposition.

West Ham United needed a replay to book their place in this 5th round tie and it took an injury time winner in extra time by West Ham striker Ogbonna to finaly settle things and end any real hope Liverpool have of making it into Europe next season.

West Ham United have won the FA Cup three times and been runners up on twice, their last FA Cup trophy win came back in 1980 and were beaten finalists back in 2006.

Blackburn Rovers Team News:

The hosts have a full squad available for this game but will be without the services of both Graham and Grimes due to them having already played in the competition for other clubs. Leading goalscorer Marshall who has 5 goals this season will lead the attack up front.

West Ham United Team News:

The visitors have several injuries to their squad and will be without the services of Reid (hamstring), Sakho (thigh), Valencia (ankle, all 27 Feb), Carroll (groin, 12 Mar), Tomkins (calf, Apr), O’Brien (hamstring, unknown). Good news for West Ham fans though is that star player Dimitri Payet who is the leading top goalscorer for this club with 7 will start this game in his familiar attacking midfield role.

Blackburn Rovers v West Ham United Head to Head Statistics:

Sunday’s afternoon match from Ewood Park Stadium will become the 64th meeting between the two clubs over the years. Blackburn Rovers have managed to secure 24 victories overall with 16 of these having come with home advantage, where as West Ham United have managed 28 victories overall with 9 of those having came away from home.

Our head to head statistics table below shows the last five matches played between the two clubs and as we can see every single game has finished all square which is a very unusual thing indeed and certainly suggests that the draw is a very possible outcome on Sunday afternoon.

07/05/11 PRL West Ham United – Blackburn Rovers 1 : 1
18/12/10 PRL Blackburn Rovers – West Ham United

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

227 Goals have been scored in the previous 63 matches played between the two clubs over the years, which provides us with an average goals per game statistic of 3.60.

103 of those Goals have been scored in the previous 31 matches played between the two clubs at Ewood Park Stadium which generates us an average goals per game statistic of 3.32.

Both sets of data seem to strongly suggest that this game should see at least a few Goals scored on Sunday afternoon and betting markets such as Both Teams to Score, Over 2.5 Goals and Total Match Goals 2 or 3 look good betting options for this game.

Nothing between the two sides on the recent form statistics as both have managed three wins, one draw and one defeat in their previous five matches played and seems to suggest that this game is going to be a very close affair.

Blackburn Rovers v West Ham United Match Betting Odds Market

Blackburn Rovers have the importance of home advantage and head into this game on the back of a very good performance in their last match when beating Fulham 3-0, so the hosts will definitely fancy their chances of causing a bit of a shock on Sunday afternoon and do look a bit overpriced at current best odds available of 13/5 with with Totesport – £20 Free Bets for New Customers Registering an Account.

The Draw has happened in all of the last five encounters between the two clubs which is a very rare thing indeed and with both sides having exactly the same recent form sats as well, everything does seem to point towards this game also finishing up in a tie and looks the value play here at a current best price of 12/5 with BetFred – Bet £10 & Receive £30 Free Bets when Registering a New Account.

West Ham United are the clear favourites to win this game which will not shock many people as they are Premiership side and have a much stronger squad than their hosts and I can definitely see plenty of people getting on their current best price of 6/5 with Coral – Bet £5 & Receive £20 Free Bets when Registering a New Account.

Blackburn Rovers v Arsenal Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

If we take notice of all the statistics mentioned earlier in this preview, it strongly suggests that this game will finish all square on Sunday afternoon as with all five of the last meetings having finished in draws and the recent form statistics also having the same last five results as each other it is difficult to argue against.

Blackburn will fancy their chances of causing an upset by winning this game and with home advantage they obviously have a chance as with the history of the FA Cup reknown for upsets, maybe this is the game where we will see one.

However, West Ham dug really deep to dump Liverpool out of this competition in the last round and I would expect the visitors to see this tournament as a real chance of picking up some silverwear this season and for me they should have enough about them to win this game on Sunday afternoon.

Onto some predictions then and my Banker Free Tip is going to be for West Ham United to Win as for me their squad is much stronger than the Blackburn squad and with West Ham having some of their key players available for this game I can see the visitors proving too strong for Blackburn to cope with over the 90mins.

My First Goalscorer Free Tip will be West Ham United attacking midfielder Dimitri Payet to score the First Goal of the game as the French International is the clubs current top goalscorer this season with 7 and 4 of those have been the first goals of the game.
