Middlesbrough v Leeds United Preview, Championship, Saturday 21st February 2015.

Middlesbrough will be looking to get back to winning ways on Saturday when they play hosts to mid table side Leeds United. In the last week they have seen exit from the FA Cup when losing 2 – 0 at Arsenal, and then experienced a torrid time at Birmingham City where the game ended 1 – 1. Middlesbrough were 1 – 0 down just before half time when Greek goalkeeper when Dimitrios Konstantoploulos brought down the last player to concede a penalty and earn himself a red card doing so. Yet Middlesbrough battled on and earned a draw when Patrick Bamford scored in the 74th minute and as Bournemouth dropped points it allows Middlesbrough to stay top of the Championship table.

Leeds United seem to be a different team this year with two loses, two draws and four wins recorded. Four of these wins have come in their last five fixtures and has seen them rise up the table out of relegation bother. This fixture on Saturday against Middlesbrough will prove to be a very testing experience and bookmakers are not fancying Leeds United to come away with anything positive from this game. however their next opponents will prove to be a little easier when they pay visit to Brighton & Hove Albion. They then face two tough challenges in Watford and Ipswich Town at home and then once again travel away from home to Wigan Athletic of which they should beat.

Middlesbrough Team News:

Middlesbrough will be without number one goalkeeper Domitrios Konstantoploulos after he was sent off against Birmingham City with a straight red card. Spanish stopper Tomas will be the likely choice to replace the thirty six year old Greek, having played in six games this season so far. The clubs top scorer is Grant Leadbitter who has so far scored 11 league goals and also assisted in 8 which is exceptional for the midfielder. Bamford who scored against Birmingham is very close behind on 10 goals.

Leeds United Team News:

Defender Giuseppe Bellusci should be back available for selection after serving a three game ban after being sent off against Bournemouth. The clubs top scorer this season is thirty year old striker Mirko Antenucci who has so far scored eight goals in all competitions this season. Young English midfielder Alex Mowatt is also playing well and has scored five Championship goals this season.

In the 63 games we have recorded between these two teams we have seen a total of 176 goals scored, which is going to give us an average of 2.8 goals per game. Something only seen twice in their last five meetings. With the way Middlesbrough are this season I do feel the below option could be a good one for Saturdays game.

Middlesbrough v Leeds United Recent Form All Competitions (Left to Right)

Middlesbrough: D L W W W

Leeds United: W W L W W

On paper it is in fact Leeds United with the better form right now due to that extra win, yet we must also consider who Middlesbrough actually lost to, which was Arsenal in the 5th round of the FA Cup. So I would actually say with ease it is in fact Middlesbrough who are the side in a far superior form.

Middlesbrough v Leeds United Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Championship action this Saturday sees top of the league Middlesbrough playing hosts to in form Leeds United. The game can be seen live on Sky Sports 1 High Definition and promises to be an exciting spectacle when looking at both clubs recent run of form. Leeds United have won four of their last five fixtures in the Championship which also includes the rare win against Bournemouth which was a shock. Middlesbrough are the clear favourites to come away with three points however, and anything but that could spell disaster if other teams play well.

Leeds United were in terrible form before the new year started, and were very low in the table and could of been fighting for survival if things hadn’t shaped up recently. Since the new year they have lost and drawn twice but then also won four which were in their last five Championship fixtures. Middlesbrough have been incredible this season and were knocked back slightly last week when they were knocked out of the FA Cup fifth round to Arsenal at The Emirates. Especially seeing as though they had already beaten Premiership Champions Manchester City at The Etihad Stadium in the fourth round.

My predictions for this Saturdays fixture will see Middlesbrough to win in both as although Leeds United are playing well, I just don’t think they have enough in them to beat this Middlesbrough side. So for the first I plan to take Bamford to score and Middlesbrough to win. With the other being both teams to score and Middlesbrough to win the game after ninety minutes. Both of these options have good merit and are showing good odds for this weekends encounter.
