Watford v Liverpool Preview, Premiership, Sunday 20th December 2015.

Incredibly so we come into this fixture with Watford two places higher in the Premiership table than their opponents Liverpool who themselves have endured a week with a lack of good results. Watford have bounced right back after defeats to top sides Leicester City and Manchester United, with wins over Aston Villa, Norwich City and Sunderland. Granted all three wins have been against sides in the bottom three yet wins are wins and confidence should grow. Watford at home could cause issues for Liverpool if they do play well and a win against them could see them as high as fifth depending on Tottenham Hotspurs and Crystal Palace’s results.

Liverpool may of qualified for the Europa League knock out stages recently yet did only manage a goalless draw against Switz side Sion who qualified in second. A disappointing draw at home to West Bromwich Albion completed a week that seemed very dismal after the 2 – 0 away defeat to Newcastle United last Sunday. A mixture of sides coming up for Jurgen Klopp and his men, with Leicester City at home and West Ham United away topping the lot. They should really win against Watford and Sunderland away, but then do have Stoke City last of the five which always seems to be a tough fixture for Liverpool. A win on Sunday could also see Liverpool in fifth depending on other results this Saturday.

Watford Team News:

Watford will be without Joel Ekstrand still with him still a few weeks away from a return. While Sebastian Prodl and Valon Behrami are doubts due to calf injuries. Rene Gilmartin is also out due to a knee injury.

Liverpool Team News:

Liverpool also have a number of players out, with James Milner the new addition with a calf issue. Its good to see Mamadou Sakho close to a return and may even possibly grab a few minutes against Watford this Sunday if deemed fit enough. Daniel Sturridge is out once again and also Dejan Lovren misses out with both potential returns sometime this month.

Watford v Liverpool Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five fixtures between these two clubs we have seen Liverpool dominate with five straight wins. Of course the results do stem all the way back until the year 2000 with Watford only returning to the Premiership this season. In total we have 18 games recorded with Watford only winning a dismal three times and drawing the once, meaning a total of fourteen loses have been conceded. The only time Watford have won at home against Liverpool was way back in 1986 with a 2 – 0 result.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 18 games played out between these two clubs we have seen a total of 55 goals scored with 39 of these by Liverpool. This is going to give us a goals per game average of 3 which has only been seen once in the last fifteen years. That said the below option would be a good option for Sundays game with Liverpool the bookmakers favourites to win.

Watford: W W W L L

Liverpool: D D L W W

In the last five games played it is in fact Watford who are the better team in form right now with three wins recently and two loses to Leicester City and Manchester United previously. Although Liverpool have only lost the once recently it was against the struggling Newcastle United who are living life dangerously at the bottom of the table.

Watford v Liverpool Match Betting Odds Market

Watford are at home and in good form, and are even higher than Liverpool in the league table. Yet are still not considered the bookmakers favourites to win the game come Sunday. Best odds on them actually winning the game can be seen coming in here @ 16/5 with Betfred – Bet £10 & Receive £30 Free Bets For New Customers.

The Draw I feel is a good option on Sunday with Liverpool recently struggling and Watford currently on a good winning run. The bookmakers are still favouring that of Liverpool to win, but the best odds seen for the draw can be found coming in here @ 13/5 with Bet365 – Receive £200 in Matched Bets when You Register a New Account

Watford v Liverpool Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Premiership action this weekend can be seen live on Sky Sports 1 High Definition and features home side Watford verses Liverpool come Sunday. With both sides having mixed results in their last five games you would come to expect Liverpool to win the game regardless of the current form. Yet this season Watford are doing far better than expected, with them being promoted they then became manager-less due to a difference of opinions. But with new management in place Watford have excelled and now currently sit seventh in the table, two places above their opponents Liverpool come Sunday. A win by either side could see them into fifth and a Europa League spot, although this does of course rely on Tottenham Hotspurs and Crystal Palaces results on Saturday.

Liverpool are the bookmakers favourites to win the game regardless of Watford’s recent three wins, with the last time Watford having beaten Liverpool at home over thirty years ago. But then we do need to consider that Watford have been spending a lot of time in the lower leagues the past decade or so and can’t expect too many meetings between the two clubs. Watford have been exceptional recently, and were unlucky to lose against Leicester City and Manchester United, and if results had gone the other way then even further up the table would Watford be.

My predictions for Sundays clash does tend to lean more towards the draw, as we need to look at the issues both clubs have been having. In one hand we have Liverpool who have a shaky defense on occasions and with the exception of Southampton do seem to be struggling in front of goal. Then Watford who can defend well on most occasions only to switch off here and there like they did at Aston Villa. So I think going for both teams to score and draw the game could be a good option. The other I am going for is Troy Deeney to score anytime during the game. To be honest I can see a potential penalty in this game, and given half the chance Deeney would be there to take it and slot it home.
