Monaco v Valenciennes Preview, Ligue 1, Friday 20th December 2013

Monaco were hoping Paris Saint-Germain were to once again drop points as they faced Rennes at the weekend after losing their last four visits. But last years champions made it a routine 3 – 1 win on the day as they looked to extend their current 2 point lead. But Monaco themselves have been in fine form and after spending big in the summer it comes as no expectation. With a convincing 2 – 0 win away to 10 man Guingamp in the bag hoping for a slip up for PSG was something too many got excited by as the champions showed their class to wannabe winners and challengers Monaco.

Valenciennes are in a sorry state right now as they haven’t recorded a win since the beginning of November away from home in the 3 – 1 win over Ajaccio who are themselves fighting for relegation survival. Before that the last win came in the opening game where Toulouse fell victim in a 3 – 0 thrashing. Valenciennes will not be looking forward to this game with playing away to a side who have a +19 goal difference and coming up against Falcao who has just returned from a thigh strain in time to play on Friday. Although he may not start the game I can still see the Colombian itching to get back onto the score sheet on Friday night.

Monaco v Valenciennes Team News

Monaco Team News:

Monaco come into the match with four injury worries, the first is midfielder Ferreira Carrasco who is missing due a sprained ankle and then Nacer Barazite who is suffering from a knee injury, although he has so far not played a game this season.. On top of that we have Borja Lopez out until the new year with a thigh muscle strain and then Nabil Dirar nursing a knee injury. Good news for Monaco fans though as we see the clubs record signing and top scorer Radamel Falcao return from a thigh strain in time to face Valenciennes on Friday.

Valenciennes Team News:

Valenciennes are missing a total of six players for Fridays game which isn’t helping the club as they face a relegation battle to keep them in the top flight. We see Opa Nguette (Hamstring), Mody Traore (Ankle), Anthony le Tallec (Hamstring), Marco da Silva (calf Strain), Gregory Pujol (Pneumothorax) and Lindsay Rose (Knee Ligaments) all out with injuries for the match which will no doubt see the club drop another 3 points come Friday.

Monaco v Valenciennes Head to Head Statistics

All we have recorded is 12 games played between these two French sides with the honors even all round. With 4 wins each and the remaining 4 ending as a draw it gives no one the advantage in regards to the head to head statistics. Not only that but both clubs have won 3 of their 4 at home and the other away, which with Monaco being at home it would give them the upper hand here.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 12 games played we have a total of 29 goals scored which gives us a very nice average of 2.4 goals per game, and with super spending Monaco during the summer it would hopefully prove to show the public a high scoring game come Friday.

Monaco v Valenciennes Recent Form (Left to Right)

Monaco: W W W W W

Valenciennes: L D L L D

Monaco are the far better team here and it shows when looking at their form coming into this match. The big spending French side are only 2 points behind PSG in the Ligue 1 and have a very nice +19 goal difference which proves that they are scoring on a regular basis.

Monaco v Valenciennes Match Betting Odds Market.

Monaco are as expected the clear favourites for this game on Friday especially seeing Falcao return from injury. With the best odds coming in  @ 3/10 with BetVictor (£25 Free Bets for New Customers)

The Draw will be a result Valenciennes would have best chance to hope for but even then the bookmakers are seeing it as unlikely with the best odds seen here @ 9/2 with Betfred (£25 Free Bets for New Customers).

Valenciennes have about as much hope of winning this game as I have of ever playing for England, I know, I just checked and the bookmakers told me to keep dreaming also with the best odds coming in @ 12/1 with BetVictor (£25 Free Bets for New Customers)

Monaco v Valenciennes Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

This game I am expecting to see a lot of goals if and when Radamel Falcao gets on the pitch. The Colombian has been missing for a few weeks with a thigh strain and is close to losing his club top scorer badge to fellow striker Emmanual Riviere who has scored 8 goals in 14 games which is only one less than the 50 million striker Falcao. So as you can imagine you could go for either of these two to score on Friday or even grab themselves a brace in the 90 minutes.

Another prediction I can see is for a Monaco Goal Crazy night which is also proving to be worth a shot as Monaco will look to continue building on their +19 goal difference in hope to catch closest rivals PSG who have +31. I know the head to head statistics do not prove than any of the teams have an advantage for Fridays game but then Valenciennes haven’t been bought out by billionaires last season and then invested multiple millions into the club with the likes of Radamel Falcao who costs a pretty penny. It is reported the French club have spent in the region of 150 million after securing promotion to Ligue 1 last season.
