Liverpool v Everton Preview, Premiership, Wednesday 20th April 2016.

It’s been a productive few weeks for Liverpool who have had a fair few ups and downs this season in regards to results. Having earned a very respectable draw at Borussia Dortmund in their first leg of the Europa League quarter finals they then managed a game of epic proportions when welcoming the Bundesliga side to Anfield last week. The game ended 4 – 3 on the night to Liverpool who at one point were 2 – 0 down in the first ten minutes.

In the Premiership they have also improved somewhat with a draw to title chasing Tottenham Hotspurs and then two victories over Stoke City and AFC Bournemouth. Liverpool verses Everton is always an exciting derby game to watch and with the form Liverpool have been in recently it should just be another routine win for the home side. Especially as Everton have failed to win a game in their last five matches.

There has been talk recently that manager Martinez is likely to be replaced at the end of the season, which I find a bizarre statement especially as the man in charge has an excellent pedigree. It could mainly be down to the fact that he couldn’t replicate that of what David Moyes has produced even though we have seen some excellent talents added to the side since he left for Manchester United.

In the last five matches played we have seen Everton fail to win a game and they have now slipped down into eleventh position and only eleven points adrift the relegation positions. Granted they have no worried about being relegated as surely they will pick up some points against the likes of AF Bournemouth and Sunderland. On the upside to their season however they are still in the FA Cup and next face Manchester United at home in the semi finals.

Liverpool Team News:

Liverpool have a number of players missing right now with Emre Can and Jordan Henderson both out of action. We will also see defender Kolo Toure out due to a hamstring injury he picked up against Bournemouth. Divock Origi is a major doubt after also getting injured in that game.

Everton Team News:

With Everton’s FA Cup semi final clash at home to Manchester United coming up we do hear that manager Roberto Martinez has no intention of resting his top stars against Liverpool in this all important Merseyside Derby. Everton are also missing a few big names for this game with Ross Barkley, Aaron Lennon, Baines and Phil Jagielka all ruled out.

Liverpool v Everton Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five games played it’s been some pretty boring results between these two bitter rivals with the only win seen by Liverpool at Anfield back in 2014. Could we really be looking at another potential draw Wednesday night? I certainly hope not. In total we have 184 games recorded with Liverpool out in front with 71 wins. Everton have also got their fair share of victories with 52. Leaving 61 games ending in draws of some sort.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In these 184 games played we have seen a total of 462 goals scored which is going to give us a goals per game average of 2.5. Back in the 2013/14 season we did see some very high scoring games between the pair, yet since then they haven’t lit up the stage too much. With Liverpool hitting the net for fun recently i do feel the below option could be a good one for Wednesdays game.

Everton haven’t won a game in their last five games played and will want to improve if they wish to win this and Saturdays game against Manchester United in the FA Cup semi finals. Liverpool however are in far better form and look forward to a semi final encounter against Spanish side Villarreal in the Europa League.

Liverpool v Everton Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Premier League Merseyside Derby action this Wednesday night comes live from Anfield on Sky Sports 1 and can of course be views in glorious High Definition. The recent games played against each other haven’t produced the best of results with four draws seen in the last five fixtures played. I am hoping this Wednesday night we do actually see a side win this match, and with my money regretfully on the home side.

Liverpool have found their form once again, but then we must also add that although they have they always seem to lose it as quickly as its found. Lets hope not for Liverpool and its fans sake as a semi final encounter against Villarreal in the Europa League is fast approaching, and of course they will want to win that and eventually progress to the special final. As its Liverpool’s only chance of playing in the Champions League next season.

Everton are extremely hit and miss right now and are quickly sliding down the table after the three recent draws against Watford, Crystal Palace and Southampton. The chances of them winning against Liverpool are dire especially as its been seventeen years since they have managed to achieve a victory at Anfield. If they do lose this game then confidence could be down for their FA Cup game against Manchester United this coming Saturday.

Everton do have some easier opponents coming up in the final run up to the end of the season with only Leicester City away from home set to be their toughest. They do have Bournemouth, Sunderland and Norwich City in which Everton should really gather all nine points and finish in a better position than the current eleventh that they are. Although they can’t exactly go that much higher as Liverpool in eight are already ten points clear of their rivals.

My predictions for this Merseyside Derby are favouring that of the home side Liverpool as Everton are not exactly on fire right now in the Premier League. For my banker bet I do feel both teams will score as more often than not they usually do against each other. On top of that however I do see Liverpool as the clear winners come the end of 90 minutes. My next prediction will be for a correct score of Liverpool to win 3 – 1 on the night.
