Hull City v Arsenal Preview, Premiership, Sunday 20th April 2014

This will be a test for Hull City here as they get set to face their FA Cup final opponents on their home turf. A win for the club could leave them in a good position for May’s clash at Wembley as they bid to win their first FA Cup trophy. Not only that a win on Sunday could see the club in a safer place in regards to their league situation as only six points between them and Fulham could bring about worrying times if they come to mimic those actions of Wigan last year which see them win the Cup and get relegated.

Arsenal may of struggled against Wigan in the FA Cup semi final last week but they soon set things right once more with a convincing win over local rivals West Ham United where German international Podolski grabbed a brace and Frenchman Giroud a goal which canceled Matt Jarvis’s opening goal. Arsenal are now ten points away from league leaders Liverpool and are now realistically out of the title race with only a miracle that could change that. It is said that Arsenal will now be hoping to secure that fourth place finish which is something that could be under threat by Everton who are just one point away.

Hull City Team News:

Hull City are without four players for Sundays game with the first being Allan McGregor who has a kidney injury. We then have Irish pair Robert Brady out with a groin strain and then Paul McShane who is suffering with his ankle. Lastly is Joe Dudgeon who is out with a knee problem.

Arsenal Team News:

Arsene Wenger has a list of injuries to compete with most right now with three of these key players for club and country. Kieran Gibbs (ankle), Jack Wilshere (ankle) and long term Theo Walcott with torn crucial knee ligament damage. We then have Diaby with the same injury as Walcott while Japan international Miyaichi is out with a pulled hamstring. Last of all is youngster Gnabry who is out with a sore knee.

Hull City v Arsenal Head to Head Statistics:

As expected here we have seen Arsenal completely dominate the last 5 head to head statistics with 5 flawless victories. It total we have only seen these two sides play each other 6 times with Hull City only ever winning the once when they first played each other back in 2008. These two sides also meet once more after Sundays game with the FA Cup final playing host to both clubs. With Arsenal struggling for form right now could we see the underdogs take advantage here?

Hull City v Arsenal Recent Form (Left to Right)

Hull City: W L L W W

Arsenal: D D L W W

Surprisingly enough it is actually Hull City who are the side in better winning form right now having won 3 of their last 5 games. Where as Arsenal have struggled with a loss, two draws and a forced win on penalties to Championship side Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup semi final. Luckily enough they did recently add another win to their form statistic with a 3 – 1 over West Ham United during the week.

Hull City v Arsenal Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

I have to say that I for one am very much looking forward to this game on Sunday which is viewing on Sky Sports 1 HD just after lunch. My reasons are this game being played on Hull City’s turf could prove if Steve Bruce’s side have just what it takes to win a major trophy, something seen very rarely at this club let alone Arsenal who themselves are in search of some recent silverware.

Hull City not only need to prove they could trouble this talented Arsenal side on Sunday for May’s FA Cup Final clash, but they also need to consider that they are only six points adrift the relegation battle happening below. Form has been reasonable for Steve Bruce recently with two league wins in their last five games, but they have yet to play Everton and Manchester United as well as Arsenal who complete three of their remaining five league games.

My predictions for Sundays game I cant help but want to back the underdogs, but this game is no cup final so I am not sure if Steve Bruce’s Hull City have the edge needed to take on this Arsenal side. So I am first of all going to back Arsenal to win the game with Podolski as a scorer. The next I am going for is a score draw, this is because deep down I am hoping Hull City have something in them to put up a decent challenge when it comes to the FA Cup final in May at Wembley.
