Dnipro v Tottenham Hotspur Preview, Europa League, Thursday 20th February 2014

Dnipro play their domestic football in the Ukraine Premier League and are having a decent enough season having approached the half way point in which they currently occupy 4th position of the league table having managed to win 9 of their 16 matches played.

This last 16 Europa League 1st Leg fixture against Tottenham Hotspur though is a much different proposition as although they finished 2nd in their group, they only really had to go up against one decent team in Fiorentina as the other two clubs were Paços de Ferreira and Pandurii Târgu Jiu.

Dnipro lost both of their matches against Fiorentina who qualified as group winners and this game is going to be just as difficult as those two matches were and it is going to be extremely important for Juande Ramos’ side to take at least something with them over to London for the 2nd leg next week if they are to have any real hope of progressing through to the next round.

Tottenham Hotspur were comfortable winners of their group as they won all 6 matches and conceded just 2 goals, which was the best record by a club during the group stage of this tournament and although there has been a change in management since those games with Tim Sherwood having taken over from the sacked Villas-Boas, Spurs look even more dangerous than ever and with Adebayor in a rich vein of scoring form the Dnipro defence look to be in for a very busy evening.

Dnipro Team News:

No injuries or suspensions for the hosts, so expect manager Juande Ramos who was manager of Tottenham Hotspur back in 2007 to go with his strongest possible lineup for this game which looks likely to include 28 year old striker Seleznyov along with his fellow countryman Zozulya who have scored 14 goals between them so far this season in the Ukraine Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News:

Assou-Ekotto, Chiriches, Sandro and Lamela are all unavailable for the visitors as each player continues to recover from respective injury problems, Sigurdsson is also a major doubt for this game and will undertake a late fitness test to see if the can be included in the squad.

Adebayor could be rested in favour of Soldado who the club spent 30 million on during the summer and who is yet to have looked anything close to that valuation from what we have seen from the Spaniard this season, but this could be his big chance to shine and get back in favour with both the manager Tim Sherwood and the Spurs fans.

Dnipro v Tottenham Hotspur Match Betting Odds Market

Dnipro will be fully aware that to stand any chance of progressing through to the next round of this competition they must win this game on thursday night so they at least have something to protect in the 2nd leg at White Hart Lane next week and the online bookmakers seem to realise this as the currently have the hosts priced up at odds of 19/10 with Sky Bet (£30 Free Bets for New Customers) to secure that all important victory.

The Draw would be a good enough result for Tottenham Hotspur here and is something that manager Tim Sherwood would probably be happy to take back to London with him, so it might be worth getting a small saver on both of these sides to cancel each other out at what is a current best price of 23/10 with Bet365 (£200 Free Bets for New Customers).

Tottenham Hotspur do have a much stronger squad than their opponents for me, but do still struggle to keep clean sheets as their defence has been questionable a number of times this season, but the online bookmakers seem to think Tim Sherwood’s men can win this game and currently have the visitors priced up as the favourites to win this game at a best price of 9/5 with BetVictor (£25 Free Bets for New Customers).

Dnipro v Tottenham Hotspur Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Dnipro will obviously fancy their chances of causing a bit of an upset here on thursday night, especially with home advantage and a packed out Dnipro Arena fully behind them, but their performances against Fiorentina in the group stage were far from impressive and they lost both of those, so I would be quite shocked to see the little unknown side from the Ukraine to win this game.

Tottenham Hotspur not only have the players in their squad to win this game, they also have years of experience of European competition and although Adebayor does look like being rested and Soldado given a chance to impress the visitors should still have enough firepower to at least score during this game and for me Tim Sherwood’s side do look the more likey winners on thursday night.

No real average goals per game statistics to go on here as this will be the first ever meeting between the two clubs, but with a place in the quarter finals at stake it will obviously be a very close and tight match and I doubt we will see a game full of goals by any means and as such the draw could prove to be the value play here.
