Brighton & Hove Albion v Middlesbrough Preview, Championship, Saturday 19th December 2015.

An exciting clash of the top two Championship teams this Saturday lunchtime when Brighton & Hove Albion play hosts to Middlesbrough. Brighton & Hove Albion are proving to be a top team this season and although have only won twice in the last five league games they have still managed to come away with a point in each of the away games played against promotion fighting sides Burnley, Derby County and Queens Park Rangers. Although the later are actually down in mid table and someway off of the play-offs even though they were relegated from the Premiership last season. The tough games haven’t ended yet for the home side with Brentford away and then home games against Ipswich Town and Wolves, only to then travel to Hull City with them looking to also fight for that automatic promotion slot.

Middlesbrough missed out on promotion last year having lost to Norwich City in the play-off final at Wembley, yet could it be their year with them once again sitting atop of the pile with better goal difference than Saturdays opponents. Once again this year though we see plenty of teams fighting for that automatic promotion with a handful of them all easily able to achieve it. The next month is also going to be a tough run for Middlesbrough, and if they come out on top they could potentially put a gap between them and Saturdays opponents. Blackburn Rovers away is always going to be tough but at least then they can play at home for the next three games but must be at their best with Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County and Burnley all looking for a place in the play-offs come the end of the season.

Brighton & Hove Albion v Middlesbrough Team News:

Brighton & Hove Albion will be without defender Lewis Dunk for this game after he was suspended in the 2 – 2 draw against Queens Park Rangers with a double yellow. Which means we could see Uwe Hunemeier start alongside club captain Gordon Greer. Striker Sam Baldock has been out with a thigh strain yet has returned to training this week.

Middlesbrough Team News:

Middlesbrough have three injury woes with Damia Abella being the worst with his crucial knee ligaments. We then have Rhys Williams out with his achilles while Alex Baptiste remains sidelined due to a leg injury. I also believe David Nugent is suspended for this fixture having been sent off in the goalless draw against Birmingham City last Saturday.

Brighton & Hove Albion v Middlesbrough Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five fixtures played out between these two clubs it is all square with two wins each and the more recent result ending in a goalless draw. Interestingly enough though is both sides wins were away from home, meaning we could potentially see another upset for inform Brighton & Hove Albion who haven’t lost a Championship game all season. We have the two clubs meeting on 14 occasions with Middlesbrough having the better end of the results with 7 wins, 4 loses and 3 draws.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 14 games played out against each other we have seen a total of 24 goals scored which is going to give us a low goals per game average of 1.7. You going take Over 1.5 goals scored for the game but the odds are not great, so I feel the below option for this game would be the best for Saturday lunchtimes game.

Brighton & Hove Albion v Middlesbrough Recent Form All Competitions (Left to Right)

Brighton & Hove Albion: D D W W D

Middlesbrough: W D W L W

Away side Middlesbrough do have the better form on paper for the last five games played, yet we need to take into consideration that Brighton & Hove Albion have still yet to lose a game in the Championship all season. Their only loss was in the Capital One Cup a while back and have since then continued to frustrate teams and come away with a positive result.

Brighton & Hove Albion v Middlesbrough Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Championship action this Saturday lunchtime brings us a very exciting match with the two top teams going all out in a bid to be at the top of the table going into Christmas. Brighton & Hove Albion are at home and a team in exceptional form having yet to lose a game in the league all season. The only game they have lost this season was against lower league side Walsall in the Capital One Cup and all the way back at the end of August. Their opponents on Saturday are Middlesbrough who were a side who last year sadly missed out on promotion with a bad run of form in the final games. We ended up seeing them in the final of the play-offs only for them to eventually lose to Norwich City who were then promoted.

Middlesbrough are also a side once again in great form even though they have lost far too many games. That said due to Brighton & Hove Albion’s draw count it does see Middlesbrough on joint points with a slight better win tally yet a less amount of draws. Middlesbrough have beaten Brighton at home with ease and which can be seen in the above head to head table. The last game however was a draw and is going to be a prediction of mine seen below. A win will leave Middlesbrough top of the table for Christmas, where as a draw could allow Derby County to take top spot. A loss of course and we will be seeing the home side Brighton & Hove Albion top.

My predictions for this game is leaning more towards that of a draw, and I am pondering on the fact it could possible be goalless. That said when looking at the two teams recent results we can see that Brighton & Hove Albion have no issues scoring, but then again also have no issues letting in goals. Where as Middlesbrough have a great defensive record having only not conceded a goal in the league in the last five games where as they have scored a low amount of six. So yes, lets go for both teams to score and to draw as the banker. The other I am going for is a total goals bet, and for this I am not sure there will be many. So for this I feel none to one goal scored on the day should be enough.
