Swansea City v Stoke City Preview, Premiership, Monday 19th October 2015.

Monday night football on Sky Sports this week comes live from Wales with Swansea City set to face Stoke City. The Welsh club started the season incredibly well winning three and drawing two in their first five games in all competition. They even contributed to the Champions Chelsea poor start with a 2 – 2 draw at Stamford Bridge and then also embarrassed Manchester United again at the Liberty Stadium with a 2 – 1 victory. Since then however Swansea City’s form has declined with three loses and a couple of draws, also seeing them knocked out of the Capital One Cup against Championship side Hull City. They may well be at home come Monday, and also knowing their opponents are three places below them. But they will need to respect Stoke City as their form has improved having won their last three games.

Stoke City had the complete opposite start to the season that their opponents with their only win in five games being that against Luton Town in the Capital One Cup, and even then they were taken to penalties in which Stoke City managed to win. They were however very unlucky in their opening game of the season to Liverpool, having lost the game in the final few minutes of the match. In the last five games however we have seen Mark Hughes side improve dramatically, even though the first of these five was a loss away from home to Arsenal. In their last three Premiership games they have won seven points, although two of the wins were against Aston Villa and Bournemouth who are below them in the table. Leicester City only managed to earn a point in Stoke, and although usually that wouldn’t be considered to be that much of a result, but when Leicester are sitting in fifth it is an achievement.

Swansea City Team News:

Swansea City are one of the Premiership teams with little to no injury worries right now and also have zero suspensions leading into this game. Andre Ayew was struggling with his knee previously, although has been said to make his return on Monday night. Kyle Naughton returns to the team after he was given leave with the birth of his daughter, while Jonjo Shelvey is also set to play having recovered from a knock on his knee while playing for England.

Stoke City Team News:

Shay Given is 50/50 for this Monday night fixture having recently suffered a knee injury in the international break when Republic of Ireland faced Germany. Another player doubtful for the game is defender Ryan Shawcross who currently has a lack of match fitness although has been regaining such in the reserves recently. Mame Biram Diouf has been given compassionate leave after the death of his mother.

In the last five games Stoke City have improved somewhat even if it is against opposition below them. Wins are wins and every point counts if it keeps a tough side like Stoke City in the Premier League. Swansea City however have declined somewhat in their last five games, struggling to win a single game, although they will still be favourites for the win come Monday evening.

Swansea City v Stoke City Match Betting Odds Market

Swansea have been in terrible form recently and have failed to win a game since back in August at home to Manchester United. The bookmakers however have set the home side as favourites and do feel could win on the night against Stoke City. The Draw I feel is the better option when looking at how the teams have played in their last five fixtures. The bookmakers also feel a draw is a good option, with the best odds of that result seen here @ 12/5 with Bet365 – Receive £200 Matched Bets when You Register a New Account

Swansea City v Stoke City Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Monday night football on Sky Sports 1 High Definition will be featuring home side Swansea City verses Mark Hughes side Stoke City. Both clubs are lower in the Premiership table than expected this season having one suffered a terrible start, and the other the opposite. Swansea City see the destruction of Manchester United at the Liberty Stadium much like last year, but have since then been in terrible form and slipped so fast down the table it’s become alarming. Stoke City on the other hand started terribly, but in their last three league games have won seven points taking them out of the relegation zone.

Apart from Arsenal at the end of October, Swansea City have some easier opponents in their next five fixtures, and will be considered favourites to earn wins against Aston Villa, Norwich City and Bournemouth. Stoke City on the other hand have to play Chelsea twice in their next five games, both in the Premiership and the Capital One Cup. They then have Newcastle United away, in which could still win with Newcastle sitting bottom of the table. Watford at Stoke’s home ground will also be a good chance of seeing the club earn another three points even though the newcomers are slightly higher in the table.

My predictions for this Mondays fixture does tend to favour the draw, as both clubs will be wanting to win the game but also be wary and not wanting to over commit in case of being done on the counter attack. So for the first I am going to go with a score draw of 2 – 2, as with these two clubs often scoring a number of goals against each other, it just seems very achievable. The other I am going for is both teams to score on the night, and for Swansea City to earn their first win since their home game against Manchester United.
