Manchester United v Southampton Preview, Premiership, 19th August 2016

Manchester United got their new season off to the perfect start when beating AFC Bournemouth 3-1 away from home in their opening match, goals from Mata, Rooney and Ibrahimovic securing the 3pts for new manager Jose Mourinho.

Southampton weren’t so fortunate in their opening game of the season though in which they could only manage a 1-1 draw at home against Watford, despite the visitors having been reduced to ten men after Ben Watson was sent off on 76mins.

Southampton will need to play much better in this game if they are to avoid picking up their first defeat of the season as this Manchester United team looks very strong and with the addition of Ibrahimovic up front I can definitely see the hosts scoring plenty of goals this season for their new manager Jose Mourinho.

Manchester United Team News :

The hosts have no fresh injury related problems and the big news coming from the Manchester United camp this week is that Paul Pogba is expected to start this game having now served his one match suspension that was carried over from his time at Juventus.

Chris Smalling is also available after suspension but could find himself with only a place on the bench after Daley Blind’s performance against Bournemouth last weekend. Mkhitaryan could also feature in this one at the expense of Juan Mata and both Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney will likely spearhead the attack up front.

Southampton Team News :

The visitors also have no new fresh injury or suspensions to contend with for this game. Charlie Austin looks likely to start on the bench again for this match as Shane Long and Nathan Redmond continue to be in favour for the two attacking roles up front.

New signing Hojbjerg could feature though having started on the bench last weekend at the expense of Oriol Romeu. Jose Fonte could return back into the starting lineup having been left out last weekend due to speculation about his future at the club.

Manchester United v Southampton Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Having watch the opening day of the season’s matches of both clubs, there is no doubt that this Manchester United side are starting to look much better than what we have seen since the departure of Alex Ferguson as manager and their impressive 3-1 victory against AFC Bournemouth away from home will have both the players and fans confident of picking up another 3pts in this one.

Southampton made hard work of it in their opening match at home against Watford and although they did manage to get back into the game after falling behind, they didn’t really capitalise on the sending off and player advantage for the final third of the game and that has got to have concerned their manager.

Onto some predictions then and my Banker Free Tip for this game is going to be for Both Teams to Score and Manchester United to Win as I fully expect United to win this game and with the attacking threat that Southampton have in their squad with Long, Redmond and Austin, I do see Southampton getting a consolation goal to take back home with them.

My First Goalscorer Free Tip is going to be for new signing Ibrahimovic to continue his impressive start for his new club by scoring the first goal of this game as with the strength, skill and height he has, every defender in the league this season will find him more than a handfull to contend with.
