Manchester City v Liverpool Preview, Premiership, Sunday 19th March 2017.

It’s time out for Manchester City when it comes down to another year in the Champions League. With them winning at home 5 – 3 all they needed to do in France was shut up shop and not concede more than one goal. Sadly for City the game was a little more eventful with the game ended 3 – 1 to Monaco leaving the game finishing 6 – 6 on aggregate. Monaco scored more away goals so progress into the quarter finals.

The home side here have some tough games coming up in the next few weeks with Liverpool at home and then Arsenal and Chelsea away from home. These few games could be vital for Manchester City here with all sides chasing to finish at the top of the league come the end of the season. Loses to any of these three sides could see City drop further down the table which is something they cannot afford to do.

It seems that Liverpool have got over yet another blip after losing to Hull City and champions Leicester City in recent games. Between the two loses they did somehow beat in form Tottenham Hotspurs, and more recently beaten Arsenal and Burnley. If they can beat Manchester City on Sunday it could see them climb back up into second position, of course depending on how Tottenham Hotspurs get on against Southampton.

After the Manchester City game we see the Merseyside derby against Everton at Anfield which will no doubt be an exceptional fixture. Another home game against AFC Bournemouth follows with them then set to travel to Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion who this week beat Arsenal. Winning at least four of these games could see them once again fight for the Premiership title.

Manchester City Team News :

Manchester City have a few injuries with Ilkay Gundogan and Gabriel Jesus most likely missing for the remainder of the season. This could mean Nicolas Otamendi and Yaya Toure could start with them both not being used against Monaco in the Champions League recently. Club captain Vincent Kompany is available having recovered from a knee injury, although may not be risked.

Liverpool Team News :

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren is considered fully fit and available again to play, yet captain Jordan Henderson (foot) and Daniel Sturridge (hip) are missing due to injuries. Roberto Firmino has recovered from a groin strain and once again available for selection and fellow striker Divock Origi is a doubt having missed training.

Manchester City v Liverpool Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five fixtures played against each other we do see it is Liverpool who have been exceptional here with four wins and the one loss. That loss was in the League Cup last year where City went through on penalties. In total the two have met on 157 occasions where Liverpool have won 75 and lost 42. Leaving a remainder of 40 games ending in draws.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 157 games played against each other we have seen a total of 483 goals scored. This is going to give us a goals per game average of close to 3.1 which shows we often see some exciting games. I’d however be more inclined to go with the below selection for Sundays game.

Manchester City v Liverpool Recent Form All Competitions (Left to Right)

Manchester City: L W D W W

Liverpool: W W L W L

Although Manchester City see defeat in the Champions League recently they are still the team in better form here. Liverpool have lost twice in the last five games although have beaten the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspurs and Leicester City. City are the slight favourites to win here even though Liverpool have an exceptional record against the top six clubs this season.

Manchester City v Liverpool Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Premier League action this Sunday will see Manchester City welcome Liverpool to the Etihad Stadium. The game can be viewed live via Sky Sports 1 and of course seen in all its glory in high definition. Both sides have lost games recently and also both beaten some big teams in recent weeks. It will no doubt be a very tough game with what I feel could see the result go either way.

Manchester City are now out of the Champions League with them being knocked out 6 – 6 on aggregate by French side Monaco. I can imagine the heartbreak there and no doubt City will want to get back to winning ways at the expense of Liverpool. That said if Manchester City do lose then Liverpool will over take them and could even head up into second place. That does also depend on Spurs who host Southampton this Sunday.

Liverpool are experts at beating the top six sides in the table this season and also have an excellent record against Manchester City, with them beating them four out of five times in all competitions. Manchester City may well be the favourites to fin this game by the bookmakers, yet I do also feel Liverpool do have a chance of winning considering their form against the blue side of Manchester.

My predictions for this game will be to back both sides for the win here. The first will be for Liverpool to earn another win against Manchester City with both teams to score and for the away win. The next I am going to go for is a correct score of Manchester City to win 2 – 0 on the day, although it is below the average score per game I just feel strongly about this selection.
