Swansea City v Tottenham Hotspur Preview, Premiership, Sunday 19th January 2014

Things still are not looking good for Swansea City who are in search of a win to end a run of seven games without one. Some would of thought that beating Manchester United at Old Trafford would of been enough to give them the kick they need to start progressing but then had to face the Champions again a week later but this time in the Premiership and not FA Cup. The result was very much the wrong result they were hoping for as Swansea City fell to two Manchester United goals in the 2nd half. Although Tottenham Hotspurs will be a tough game even with them at home they then have nearly six weeks of easier opponents until they face Italians Napoli in the Europa League.

Tottenham Hotspurs soon bounced back after the bitter defeat to local rivals Arsenal in the FA Cup, it would of been Tim Sherwood’s first loss since taking over as head coach until the end of the season. With the win to relegation battling side Crystal Palace in the bag they now look to rekindle that winning streak they had found previously. Tottenham Hotspurs are now in a far better position than a month or so back where they seemed to drift down the table but new vigor has seen them close the gap to eight points off leaders Arsenal and only two from a Champions League finish.

Swansea City Team News:

Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup is waiting on the fitness of Roland Lamah and Dwight Tiendalli after both players returned to full time training this week. It may be a little early to pick them for immediate selection but if they are fit and available no doubt they could start. We also could see Nathan Dyer and Pablo Hernandez return against Spurs as they also look close to a full return. Swansea are still without the Dutchman Guzman who is still recovering from an ankle injury although things are looking well and we could see him return in the next ten days.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News:

Tottenham Hotspurs also have a few returning players for this Sunday match with Andros Townsend featuring in the U21 match in midweek without any issues and defenders Younes Kaboul and Jan Vertonghen could also return in time to feature. Record signing Erik Lamela is close to his return after a thigh injury but Spurs will still be without Brazilian Paulinho who is still recovering with an ankle issue. Kyle Walker is hit and miss as he recovers from a calf injury and I feel it is more likely a miss from the England right back.

Swansea City v Tottenham Hotspur Head to Head Statistics:

Tottenham Hotspurs are the dominant force in recent years which also includes the other 4 games not seen below. With a total of 9 games played we have seen Tottenham Hotspurs win 6 of them to Swansea City’s 2. Spurs however have only ever won once away from home to the Welsh club and also drawn the only draw these two have recorded.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 9 games we have seen played in the past only 20 goals have been recorded. Which gives us an average of 2.2 goals per game, and with looking at the last 5 head to head statistics it is pretty much spot on and safe to say we could see more of the same on Sunday.

Swansea City v Tottenham Hotspur Recent Form (Left to Right)

Swansea City: L W L D L

Tottenham Hotspur: W L W W D

Swansea City broke the run of defeats at the beginning of January with a rare win over Manchester United at Old Trafford in the FA Cup, yet they then went and lost against the same side and venue a week later in the Premiership. Bad form by the Welsh side has seen them continue to slump down the league and now reside in 13th position. Tottenham Hotspurs however have played exceptionally well since Tim Sherwood took over although they did exit the FA Cup to Arsenal on the 4th January.

Swansea City v Tottenham Hotspur Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

When we look at the form of both clubs you can’t help but feel Tottenham Hotspurs will come away with a hard fought win on Sunday. I just don’t feel Swansea City have much in them even after seeing them beat Manchester United in the FA Cup recently. With the way the Champions were playing it didn’t take nothing special to note to warrant the win. Yet we see Spurs playing very well even though they did lose in the FA Cup themselves to bitter rivals Arsenal who played Tottenham Hotspurs off the park.

Looking at the head to head statistics we have seen Spurs win a fair few more than the Welsh side although there is only nine games played that we have recorded. In the six wins recorded by Tottenham Hotspurs only one of them is away from home. Nothing to worry too much about as only four times have these two met at The Liberty Stadium.

So lets get down the gritty part and predict some winners! Well we can hope eh as it all depends on the day if both teams play how their form portrays. My first will be for a Spurs win and both teams to score, which is a big possibility if Wilfred Bony decides to bring his A game. Watching him against Manchester United in the Premiership game the other week the striker looked very frustrated and was often shooting from distance with little hope of snatching a much needed Swansea goal. The other is for Emmanual Adebayor to score first as the striker has been in fine form since Tim Sherwood gave the ex Arsenal man a lifeline.
