Tottenham Hotspur v Sunderland Preview, Premiership, Sunday 19th September 2016.

Tottenham Hotspurs will want to bounce back this Sunday and do it early against Sunderland to just settle the nerves. Having lost at home to French side Monaco in the Champions League group stages they will be hoping to get back to winning ways as soon as possible. They have so far drawn two and won the other two which does also include a home 1 – 1 result against Liverpool who recently defeated Chelsea.

We should see Spurs win the three points against this Sunderland side who are struggling right now in the league, with them next to face Gillingham in the League Cup 4th round. They also have Middlesbrough and Manchester City in the Premiership while also facing CSKA Moscow in the Champions League in between these two fixtures.

Sunderland are really struggling right now with just the one point from the four Premier League games so far played. Southampton were the team who managed to drop points against Sunderland, while Manchester City, new comers Middlesbrough and more recently Everton the sides who walked away with all three points. The clubs only win of this season was in the League Cup where they only managed to beat Shrewsbury Town 1 – 0.

After this tough away fixture against Tottenham Hotspurs we then see Sunderland face Championship side Queens Park Rangers in the 4th round of the League Cup where that result could go either way. It’s then back to Premiership action with two home fixtures against Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion who have both won one each. Then they travel to Stoke City who are currently the only side below them in the table rankings.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News:

This Sunday we do see the return of Mousa Dembele who has returned from a six game ban he picked up against Chelsea last season. The only injury the home side Spurs have currently is Danny Rose, who is still a week or so away from full recovery. We could also see Moussa Sissoko, Victor Wanyama and Kieran Trippier make a start as the manager looks to rest others due to the Champions League action midweek.

Sunderland Team News:

Sunderland are suffering with a number of injuries right now with Lee Cattermole still sorely missed by the club as he continues to recover from a hernia operation. Steven Pienaar still has a slight issue with his hamstring yet is back in light training.

Next is Billy Jones who has been out with his hip, yet like his team mates already mentioned is back in training. Sadly for Victor Anichebe he will miss further games having suffered a thigh strain during training sessions to build his match fitness.

Others out are Sebastian Larsson with his knee, striker Borini with a groin strain and then goalkeeper Vito Mannone with a bad elbow.

Tottenham Hotspur v Sunderland Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head encounters it is the London club Spurs who come out on top with four wins and the single draw back in 2014. The two clubs have met on 105 occasions with Sunderland still doing reasonably well with 35 victories. Tottenham Hotspurs however have won 42 while between them have secured 28 draws.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 105 games played out between these Premiership clubs we have seen a total of 284 goals scored. This will of course give us a goals per game average of 2.7 which as you can see above is very hit and miss if looking at the exact goals scored option. That said I am going to stay with the below selection for Sundays game at White Hart Lane.

Sunderland are in terrible form right now and could be one of the clubs once again facing the relegation fight come the end of the season. Although Tottenham Hotspurs lost during the week in the Champions League they are still the better team in form and the solid favourites for Sundays clash.

Tottenham Hotspur are as expected the clear and solid favourites to win this game against the struggling Sunderland at White Hart Lane, and it comes as no surprise with them currently still searching for their first win. The Draw is a result I feel Sunderland could only hope for in this Sundays fixture. As I certainly do not feel they could win the match with the way they are currently playing. Tottenham Hotspur v Sunderland Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

After the midweek excitement of the Champions League we are back to Premier League action this weekend. This Sunday we get to witness Tottenham Hotspurs at home against struggling side Sunderland who are still looking for their first league win of the season. Granted I know there has only been four league games played so its still early days and should panic just yet.

That said I certainly cannot see David Moyes walking away from this game with three points for his side Sunderland, with it more than likely to be set as another possible heavy defeat if they are not careful. We do know Spurs are a very attacking side and if the clubs strikers are on form we could potentially see a number of goals. It will be fought for as the club look to bounce back from the midweek loss to Monaco in the Champions League.

Sunderland really do need to work harder and achieve that first league win of the season, as by the time we get to Christmas they could start to panic as they once again face the drop. They have managed to avoid relegation the last few seasons but only just using the last five games to secure their safety. However I do see David Moyes turning things around for the club but it will need to be sooner rather than later I feel.

My predictions for this game does of course back that of Tottenham Hotspurs to win and with that I do feel they will win this game with ease. Sunderland always hold the threat at scoring yet I can’t see them out scoring this Spurs side come Sunday. So for my banker prediction I am going to go for Tottenham Hotspurs to win this game via a three goal margin. The next I am going for is Spurs to win this game 3 – 1.
