Watford v Manchester United Preview, Premiership, 18th September 2016

Watford have had an average start to their new season and currently occupy 10th position in the premiership league table having won one, drawn one and lost two of their opening four matches.

Their two defeats were a 2-1 defeat at home to Chelsea and a 3-1 defeat at home against Arsenal, however they did respond well to those defeats last weekend when coming from 2-0 down to beat West Ham United 4-2 away from home and that result will have gone a long way to restoring the confidence of the players.

Manchester United have had a good start to their new season, but did suffer their first defeat last weekend when losing 2-1 at home against arch rivals Manchester City, this was then followed by a 1-0 defeat away against Feyenoord in their champions league opening group match and I expect their new manager Jose Mourinho is far from happy at the moment.

However, I do expect them to recover from those defeats and get back to winning ways in this match as the players will be fully aware of what is expected from them come Sunday afternoon.

Watford Team News :

The hosts have almost a full squad available for this game but will be without the services of Okaka who is still struggling with a hamstring problem. Troy Deeney and Ighalo will lead the attack up front with support in behind being provided by Capoue, Pereyra and Behrami.

Manchester United Team News :

The visitors also have almost a full squad available but will be without the services of both Mkhitaryan who is out with a thigh strain and Jones who is still recovering from a knee problem.

Ibrahimovic will lead the attack up front with Martial, Rooney and Rashford sigging just in behind. Fellaini and Pogba will be the two key midfielders looking to break the play up.

Watford v Manchester United Head to Head Statistics:

Sunday’s lunch time game from Vicarage Road will become the 19th meeting between the two clubs over the years, of which Watford have won 2 times overall with both of those victories having came with home advantage.

Manchester United have managed to secure 13 victories overall with 6 off those having came away from home and this does seem to be a fixture that they enjoy and do well in.

As we can see from our head to head to head statistics table shown below, recent meetings between the two clubs shows Manchester United with a clear advantage having managed to win all five times, Watford failing to win any.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

54 Goals have been scored in the previous 18 meetings between the two clubs and this provides us with an overall average goals per game statistic of exactly 3.00.

27 of those Goals have came in the 10 previous matches played at Vicarage Road Stadium and this generates us an average goal scoring statistic of 2.70.

Based on both sets of data shown above the information does seem to suggest that this game should see between two or three goals scored on Sunday afternoon and Total Match Goals 2 or 3 looks the perfect beeting market choice for this game.

Watford v Manchester United Recent Form All Competitions (Left to Right)

Watford: D L L L W

Manchester United: W W W L L

Manchester United have a slight advantage on the recent form stats having won three and lost two of their previous five matches played, compared to Watford who have won one, drawn one and lost three of their previous five matches played.

The recent form stats clearly favour Manchester United to win this game and with their current odds available from the online bookmakers looking very generous indeed, I do expect a United victory to be down as many people’s bankers on Sunday.

Watford v Manchester United Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Watford will have had their confidence boosted by their come from behind victory against West Ham last weekend away from home, but with their record against Manchester United over previous years not reading very well, I would be surprised to see them win this game on Sunday afternoon, despite having home advantage.

Manchester United have now picked up two defeats on the bounce what with their 2-1 defeat against Manchester City last weekend, followed by their 1-0 defeat away against Feyenoord in the champions league midweek.

Some might feel that due to those two defeats, Watford might be able to get something from this game, but with the vast difference in world class players in the two squads and the United manager Jose Mourinho obviously having had serious words with his players after those defeats, I am expecting Watford to be in for a very tough time of it indeed in this game.

The hosts are capable of getting a goal in this match,  but I do expect United to score at least a couple or more and go on to win this game quite comfortably when all is said and done.

Onto some predictions then and my Banker Free Tip for this game is going to be for Both Teams to Score & Manchester United to Win as with a bit of luck Watford might just be able to get one goal in this game after their four against West Ham last weekend and having home advantage.

My First Goalscorer Free Tip is going to be for Ibrahimovic to score the opening goal of this game, as with four goals this season, he looks the standout choice to open up the goalscoring in this match.
