Ipswich Town v Birmingham City, Championship, Friday 18th September 2015

Ipswich Town will head into this game on Friday night having had a good start to their new season campaign which has seen Mick McCarthy’s side currently placed in 5th position in the league table having won four, drawn one and lost two of their opening seven matches played.

Birmingham City head into the game also having had a decent start to their new season and they currently occupy 7th position in the league table after six games played having won three, drawn two and lost just one and a victory at Portman Road in front of the sky sports camera’s would move Gary Rowett’s side up into a top three position with a game in hand.

Ipswich Town Team News:

Kevin Bru and Teddy Bishop are now available following hamstring injuries along with Cole Skuse after a knee problem but Ryan Fraser is a doubt having picked up a knock midweek at Elland Road.

Birmingham City Team News:

No new fresh injury problems for the visitors and manager Gary Rowett will probably start this game with the same side that lost against Nottingham Forest last time out with the one exception being Demaral Gray who could get a start having only made the bench in that Forest defeat.

Ipswich Town v Birmingham City Head to Head Statistics:

Friday night’s game from Portman Road will become the 53rd meeting between the two clubs over the years, of which Ipswich Town have won 26 times with 18 of those having came with home advantage where as Birmingham City have managed 15 victories, with just 6 of those having came away from home.

As we can see from our head to head to head statistics table shown below, recent meetings between the two clubs shows Ipswich Town having enjoyed much the better results over the last few season’s having won 3 times, compared to Birmingham City having won none, with the remaining two games having finished all square.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

68 Goals have been scored in the previous 26 meetings between the two clubs and this provides us with an overall average goals per game statistic of 2.62.

29 of those Goals have came in the 13 previous matches played at the Madejski Stadium and this generates us an average goal scoring statistic of 2.23.

Based on both sets of data shown above, it does seem to indicate that this game is unlikely to be a goal fest by any means with no more than 2 or 3 Goals expected to been seen in this one.

Ipswich Town v Birmingham City Match Betting Odds Market

Ipswich Town are currently the clear favourites to win this game on Friday night with a current best price available of 19/20 with BetFred – Bet £10 & Receive £30 Free Bets For New Customers, but this does look a bit on the short side considering their start to the new season having been a moderate one at best.

The Draw has happened twice in the last five meetings played between the two clubs and with both sides having enjoyed good starts to their new season I can definitely see this game possibly ending up all square and this can be backed at a current best price of 13/5 with Bet365 – Receive £200 Matched Bonus Bets For New Customers.

Birmingham City don’t have a particularly good record at Portman Road having managed just six victories from a possible twenty six attempts, so no real surprise to see visitors with current best price of 10/3 with BetVictor – Receive £50 Free Bets For New Customers, to win this game on Friday night away from home.

Ipswich Town v Birmingham City Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

An interesting game this one and looking at what both clubs have done so far this season it does seem that either side could win this one come Friday night.

Ipswich Town have had no problems putting the ball in the back of the net from their opening seven matches played having scored twelve times, but their defence does seem to be their main problem as they have also conceded twelve times during those seven matches and with Birmingham City having scored eleven times from only six matches played this season, I do see the visitors scoring at least one or two in this match.

The overall head to head statistics do not favour a Birmingham City victory much in this match though as with just six wins in twenty six attempts those statistics hardly fill anyone with much confidence.

However, with a chance to move up into the top three places of the league table, I do believe Birmingham City could win this match and at their current odds on offer they do look the value play from a betting point of view.

As such my Banker Free Tip for this game is going to be Birmingham +0.5 on the Asian Handicap as although I do really like the look of their chances of winning this game, with the draw covered and a nice return of even money, this does look the sensible play here.

My First Goalscorer Free Tip is going to be for Birmingham City veteran striker Clayton Donaldson to open up the scoring as with three goals already this season and likely to be played as the main striker up front and the fact that Ipswich Town’s defence do have a habit of conceding goals, he looks a good choice at great odds.
