West Brom v Chelsea Preview, Premiership, Monday 18th May 2015

West Brom head into this game knowing that they are safely clear of relegation threat and that could mean that manager Tony Pulis might use this opportunity as a chance to give some of his fringe players a chance to impress.

The Baggies have not had the greatest of seasons’ despite having some world class individuals like Sessègnon and Berahino and I will be quite surprised to see either of these players at the club next season as they are certainly good enough to play in any of the top five or six sides in this league.

Chelsea head into the game having secured yet another Premiership title under the guidance of Jose Mourinho and he could also use this game as a chance to provide some of his fringe players a chance to impress, although I would still expect the majority of the first team to start this game as he certainly won’t want to lose this game either.

West Brom Team News:

The hosts have a full squad available for this game after Callum McManaman has now fully recovered from a foot injury so manager Tony Pulis can name a very strong squad if he wanted and both Saido Berahino and Brown Ideye will be looking to feature in the starting lineup for this one having had to make do with a place on the bench for last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Newcastle United.

Chelsea Team News:

The visitors have a number of injury concerns and will be without number two goal-keeper Petr Chech, Ramires and Oscar for this game. Youngsters Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Isaiah Brown could get a chance to feature at some point and striker Diego Costa could also be involved having now recovered from a hamstring problem.

West Brom v Chelsea Head to Head Statistics:

Monday night’s game from the Hawthorns will become the 102nd meeting between the two clubs over the years. West Brom have won 32 times overall, with 20 of those having came at the Hawthorns, where as Chelsea have won 44 times overall, with just 18 of those having came at the Hawthorns.

The previous 5 meetings below in our head to head statistics show Chelsea with a slight advantage as they have managed 2 wins compared to West Brom having won 1.

The remaining two games finished all square with the reverse fixture in the league this season played at Stamford Bridge ending in a comfortable 2-0 victory for Jose Mourinho’s side.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

319 Goals have been scored in the previous 101 meetings between the two clubs and this provides us with an overall average goals per game statistic of 3.15.

146 of those Goals have came in the 50 previous matches played at the Hawthorns Stadium and this generates us an average goal scoring statistic of 2.92.

Both sets of data shown above strongly suggest that we should see plenty of goals hitting the back of the nets in this game on Monday night and the Over 2.5 Goals betting market looks the place to concentrate on here.

West Brom v Chelsea Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Many people will probably expect Chelsea to win this game and finish the season unbeaten since their shock 4-2 defeat in the FA Cup against Bradford on the 24th January this year, but with Jose Mourinho having already said that he is going to give some of his youngsters a chance in their final two games of the season, the champions are not going to be anything close to their strongest and this could provide West Brom with a huge chance.

However, one thing that does look quite certain to occur is that the game will see plenty in the way of goals scored as with the average goals per game statistics showing high numbers for the overall and for matches played in the past between these two clubs at the Hawthorns the sensible option here does seem to be the goals market.

As such my Banker Prediction for this one is going to be for Over 2.5 Goals to be scored as I expect West Brom to get at least one and possibly two depending on how many youngsters Chelsea decide to play and of course you can’t write the champions off from scoring in any game, so they look likely to get at least one or two themselves.

My Saver is going to be for Saido Berahino to Score at Anytime as for me this player has bags of talent and these two final games could be his last for the club and I would expect him to take full advantage of using these two matches as a real chance to put himself in the shop window for the upcoming transfer window.
