Stoke City v Tottenham Hotspur Preview, Premiership, Monday 18th April 2016.

It’s been a productive season so far for Stoke City with them currently sitting three points ahead of champions Chelsea in ninth position. This Monday night they have a chance at going eight ahead of Liverpool, although Jurgen Klopp’s side do have a couple of games in hand over most sides which is due to the Europa League and Capital One Cup matches.

Stoke City haven’t however been in the best of form recently with only one win in their last five fixtures in the Premier League and will find it tough against in form Tottenham Hotspurs and then next Manchester City at The Etihad next weekend. After that the club then face Sunderland who are fighting for their Premier League survival and we all know just how tough a side can be who are trying not to get relegated.

Tottenham Hotspurs will do all they can to win this match come Monday, especially as current league leaders Leicester City dropped points on Sunday against West Ham United. The gap is now seven points and although if they do win it may only close the gap to four points temporally, or until Leicester City play their game in hand.

Spurs come into this game on the back of an excellent win at home to Manchester United with all three goals being scored within six minutes deep into the second half. The club will know Stoke City are no push overs and playing at The Britannia Stadium against this tough tackling side is never an easy job. Spurs still have Chelsea away from home left to play yet, but lets be honest here Chelsea are not exactly a tough side to beat right now.

Stoke City Team News:

We could see the return of Glenn Whelan who has had a back injury to deal with, and also striker Marko Arnautovic who seems to have recovered from a knee issue. However defender Marc Muniesa is unlikely to play although will be assessed before the game to see if the left back is fit. Erik Pieters is out of this fixture due to a suspension. Ryan Shawcross is also expected to return after being out recently with a back injury.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News:

Good news for Tottenham Hotspurs fans as Harry Kane declares himself fit to play in Monday nights fixture. The England striker has missed training all week after suffering a dead leg against Manchester United last weekend. Also Clinton Njie has returned from a long term knee injury and could be made available if the manager needs him. The only player missing is midfielder Nabil Bentaleb who also has a knee issue.

Stoke City v Tottenham Hotspur Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five fixtures played out against each other we have seen it is all equal with two wins each and the more recent draw at White Hart Lane in August of last year. In total we have 68 games played against each other with Tottenham Hotspurs nearly winning double with 34 victories. Stoke City have won on 18 occasions leaving 16 games left ending as draws.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In these 68 games played against each other we have seen a total of 176 goals being scored with 104 of these by Spurs. This is going to give us a goals per game average of 2.6 which is a solid selection if taking the above table into account. I feel the below selection here is always going to be a good selection for Monday nights game.

Tottenham Hotspur: W D W L W

Although Spurs have dropped a couple of points recently they also have seen them knocked out of the Europa League back during March. But have since then picked it back up with an excellent win over Manchester United last weekend. Stoke City have played above expectations and will finish the season is a very respectable mid table.

Stoke City v Tottenham Hotspur Match Betting Odds Market

Stoke City may well be at home Monday night but are not given much chance of beating this title chasing Tottenham Hotspur side. The bookmakers best odds on winning the match can be seen coming in here @ 21/5 with Betvictor – £25 Free Bets For New Customers Registering an Account

The Draw is the result seen last between these two clubs back in August, yet it wont be good enough for the visitors who are still seven points behind league leaders Leicester City. Tottenham Hotspur are considered the bookmakers favourites to walk away with all three points on Monday night and anything but a win must surely be seen as a disappointment by the club who are chasing for the league title. Stoke City v Tottenham Hotspur Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Monday Night Premier League action this week witnesses a Tottenham Hotspurs side who have to travel to Stoke City in need of a win if they want any chance of keeping up with current league leaders Leicester City. Spurs are currently seven points adrift and after Leicester drew on Sunday a win on Monday for Spurs would certainly be seen as a welcomed gift.

The game can be seen live via Sky Sports 1 and of course in glorious High Definition at The Britannia Stadium. Spurs have been in some great form even though they were knocked out of the Europa League last month against Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund. It’s back to winning ways however with an exceptional 3 – 0 win at White Hart Lane against Manchester United.

Stoke City will not just roll over and allow Tottenham Hotspurs to win on Monday night, even if the club have very little to play for but pride. To finish as high as possible will be the clubs goals as surely the nine point gap between them and fifth place is surely to far a dream to come true. All the club can do is keep winning and hope others slip up above them as finishing anywhere in the top ten would be an outstanding achievement.

The clubs form has however been up and down recently with only the one win against Watford away to be that proud about. They did also draw away from home to Stoke City and at home to Swansea City and then also lost to Southampton and Liverpool more recently. A win against Spurs is seen as unlikely, but the Stoke City I know are always a hard team to beat when your a top side.

My predictions for Monday nights does lean more towards that of a Tottenham Hotspurs win and although Stoke would usually challenge I just can’t see them out scoring the likes of Tottenham’s attack. My banker bet I am going to go for both teams to score and for Spurs to actually win the game, as Stoke City have not failed to score in their last eight games they could just nick one against the Londoners.

My second prediction is contradicting the above statement about Stoke City failing to score, and instead go for a correct scoreline of Tottenham Hotspurs to win the game 1 – 0. I’m going for this as nerves will surely be in play Monday night and I can also see the goal coming late in the game possibly and potentially upsetting the Leicester City faithful!
