Blackpool v Burnley Preview, Championship, Friday 18th April 2014

The situation is going from bad to worse for Blackpool who continue to slip down the league table towards the relegation battle. With just two points between themselves and Millwall a win against second placed Burnley will be a must for Fridays game. But having lost four and drawing just one in their last five games things are not looking too good for the ex Premiership side who could be playing League One football next season unless they start to pull things together.

Burnley’s chances of actually catching Leicester City up and claiming top position took a huge knock last weekend after losing to mid table side Middlesbrough at home. A win there could of put them just four points behind the Championship leaders. With just six games and eighteen points left for grabs Burnley now sit seven points behind Leicester City who themselves have only taken one point in their last two league games. A slip up Burnley failed to take advantage of against Middlesbrough and will now need to fight until the end to see out this exciting outcome.

Blackpool Team News:

Blackpool goalkeeper Matthew Gilks has so far played in all forty two league games this season with manager Barry Ferguson preferring his fellow Scot between the sticks than the likes of veteran Tony Warner and youngster Halstead. The clubs current top scorer is Jamaican veteran strike Ricardo Fuller who has only scored six league goals this term. Goals is sadly a thing Blackpool have been lacking this season which can only be blamed for their decline into the relegation fight.

Burnley Team News:

Manchester Uniteds youth goalkeeper Tom Heaton has so far played in all of the league games this season and has done extremely well for the club since signing from Bristol City on a free transfer. The youngster left United for Cardiff City on a free and since then moved onto Bristol City before finally landing on solid ground at Burnley. One thing this club haven’t been without is goals this season with Sam Vokes hitting twenty while strike partner Danny Ings has scored nineteen league goals.

Blackpool v Burnley Head to Head Statistics:

In the last 5 head to head battles we can see that whoever is playing at home tends to come out victors.  Burnley do manage to be the better side here and have actually won 30 times out of a total of 63 games played between these two sides. Blackpool have won 18 times putting them in second. We have also seen 15 draws with Burnley earning that result 10 times on their travels.

21/12/13 CHA Burnley – Blackpool 2 : 1
13/04/13 CHA Blackpool – Burnley 1 : 0
20/10/12 CHA Burnley – Blackpool 1 : 0
21/04/12 CHA Blackpool – Burnley 4 : 0
29/10/11 CHA Burnley – Blackpool 3 : 1

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In these 63 games played in the past we have seen a total of 148 goals scored. Which is giving us an average of 2.3 goals per game. Although looking at the above table that number does seem to be inconsistent if you are planning to place a bet on these facts.

Blackpool v Burnley Recent Form (Left to Right)

Blackpool: L D L L L

Burnley: W L D W L

Burnley are without doubt the best team in form between these two sides and both sit at opposite ends of the table. Although we have seen Burnley slip up twice in recent weeks with two loses out of their last five games played. Blackpool need to improve if they wish to avoid the relegation drop as they are now just two points off Millwall who are currently in 22nd.

Blackpool v Burnley Match Betting Odds Market

Blackpool will need to play at their absolute best to see a win here on Friday with Burnley currently fighting for that top spot. The bookmakers are setting the best odds up and can be found here @ 16/5 with Coral – Receive £50 Free Bets when Registering a New Account.

The Draw is an option maybe with Burnley losing their last league game to weaker opposition, and if Blackpool are serious about playing football in this division next season then a point would be seen as a good result on Friday. The bookies best odds are coming in @ 5/2 with SkyBet (£30 Free Bets for New Customers).

Burnley are as expected the clear favourites to win this game even though they did lose to Middlesbrough last weekend. Blackpool v Burnley Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

At this stage of the season as usual we are starting to get some shock results as teams full under the pressures of challenging for league honors and of course those fighting for survival to stay in the division. This game will be much of the same as Blackpool are forever getting closer to that relegation battle which is now just two points away. Burnley however showed last weekend that they are vulnerable to the pressures of the top as in the last month have had so many clear cut chances of taking the top spot from current leaders Leicester City.

Fridays game on Sky Sports 1 HD will prove to be an exciting game as both teams battle it out in what is one of the toughest leagues to be compete in throughout the world. With so many sides showing Premiership qualities and of course those who have had that experience you can never come to expect what will happen when we get to this stage of the year.

My predictions for this game should completely back Burnley as they are the stronger side, but again we must consider what both sides are fighting for on Friday. That doesn’t mean I think Blackpool will win but I do feel they have a good chance of fighting for a draw in Fridays game. So my first will be for a score draw which I believe to have high chances of coming in. The next will be for Burnley to win with a Danny Ings goal which will bring him level on league goals with fellow striker Sam Vokes.
