Barcelona v Manchester City Preview, Champions League, Wednesday 18th March 2015.

It’s all in Barcelona’s hands for this second leg fixture against English Champions Manchester City on Wednesday when the two meet again but this time in sunny Spain. Barcelona are in incredible form right now and have finally overtaken Real Madrid at the top of the Spanish La Liga table even though they had points and a game in hand to spare. Although their positions could change again when Real Madrid travel to Barcelona in the game after the Champions League encounters. Last years Spanish Champions Atletico Madrid are nine points adrift of Barcelona and are not considered as potential champions come the end of the season. leaving Barcelona and Real Madrid as the solid favourites to win the La Liga.

Manchester City’s issues took another tumble at the weekend when they lost to relegation battling side Burnley 1 – 0. Making that their second Premiership loss in their last five games in all competitions, and then we do also need to add another loss at home when the English Champions lost to Barcelona 2 – 1 in the first leg. We now see City six points behind Chelsea who currently lead the pack, with the Blues also enjoying the fact that they also have a game in hand over the Manchester club. Some are saying that it is all over for last years champions as a potential nine point gap between them and Chelsea with nine games remaining does seem like a hell of an ask, and they can only prey for a miracle as that is what is needed for them to retain their Premiership crown.

Barcelona Team News:

Barcelona have two players reported missing for selection for Wednesday nights game against Manchester City. The usual name on that list is defender Thomas Vermaelen still out with a hamstring issue. We then have Spanish midfielder Busquets who currently has a sprained ankle.

Manchester City Team News:

Manchester City have come through the last few weeks unscathed and currently have no players out injured. Sergio Aguero is still the clubs top goal scorer, having netted seventeen times in the Premiership, as well as the six he has scored during his Champions League campaign, although unless he scores a few tonight that experience could come to an end.

Barcelona v Manchester City Form (Left to Right)

Barcelona: W W W W W

Manchester City: L W L L W

Spanish side Barcelona are by far the better team in form and on paper coming into this game. Manchester City have surprisingly lost three out of their last five fixtures in all competitions, and also includes the 2 – 1 loss to Barcelona in the 1st leg of the last 16 in the Champions League.

Barcelona v Manchester City Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Champions League Last 16 2nd Leg action on Wednesday night can be seen live on Sky Sports 5 High Definition, and features Manchester City as the travelling side with them facing Barcelona at the Nou Camp. The bookmakers are not in favour of this out of form Manchester City side progressing into the next round. With their hopes of doing so seen very unlikely if they play like they did against Premiership struggling side Burnley.

Barcelona are in incredible form right now and solid favourites to progress into the next round to face tougher opposition. They are also happy with the way results have been going in the La Liga with them now sitting top of the table. It took some time, but we did see Real Madrid slip up and lose they few points advantage they had, and also the game in hand they had over Barcelona. Manchester City’s form has slumped and I feel personally they are now out of the running to challenge current Premiership leaders Chelsea for the title. Granted they are only six points adrift, but the Blues also have a game in hand which they could very well easily win.

My predictions for this Champions League fixture do see Manchester City exit out of the competition sadly. Yet can we really blame that exit on anything other tan poor form? Anyway my first prediction will be for Barcelona to win the game and also for Neymar to score in the night. The next will be for both teams to score and for the result to end as the first draw seen between these two clubs. Either way I do feel Manchester City will be leaving the competition come the end of Wednesday night.
