Schalke 04 v Real Madrid Preview, Champions League, Wednesday 18th February 2015

Schalke 04 are having a good season in the German Bundesliga, but do head into this important first leg tie against Real Madrid at the Veltins Arena having lost 1-0 away to Eintracht Frankfurt over the weekend and with Real Madrid having knocked them out of the UEFA Champions League last season by an aggregate score of 9-2 over the two legs, you can imagine that none of the Schalke 04 players will be looking forward to this one on Wednesday night.

Real Madrid are also having a good season in their Spanish Primera La Liga and head into this first leg tie on Wednesday night having won 2-0 at the weekend at home to Deportivo La Coruna and with a large majority of the players that beat Schalke 04 9-2 in the knock out stages still with the club, they will obviously be looking forward to securing a good result in this one.

Schalke 04 Team News:

Julian Draxler, Jefferson Farfan, Sead Kolasinac, Leon Goretzka and Chinedu Obasi are all currently unavailable to the hosts due to respective injury related problems.

Real Madrid Team News:

James Rodriguez, Luka Modric and Sergio Ramos are all unavailable for the visitors. Defender Pepe has been absent recently with a rib injury, but could feature in this game having now fully recovered to bolster the defence.

Schalke 04 v Real Madrid Head to Head Statistics

Wednesday night’s 1st Leg match from the Veltins Arena will become the 3rd meeting between the two clubs over the years. Schalke 04 have failed to win any of the previous two matches with Real Madrid having won both as we can see in our head to head statistics table below.

18/02/15 UCL Schalke 04 – Real Madrid

18/03/14 UCL Real Madrid – Schalke 04  3 : 1
26/02/14 UCL Schalke 04 – Real Madrid

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

11 Goals have been scored in those two previous matches between the two clubs which came in last season’s UEFA Champions League and this provides us with an average goals per game statistic of 5.50.

7 Goals were scored in the previous match played between the two clubs at the Veltins Arena and this generates us an average goals scoring statistic for this game of 7.00.

Both sets of data strongly suggest that this game on Wednesday night should see plenty of goals scored.

Real Madrid: W W W L W

Schalke 04 v Real Madrid Match Betting Odds Market

Schalke 04 got absolutely smashed by Real Madrid last season in the knock out stages of this competition and with a whole host of injuries to key players it should not come as much of a surprise to see them currently priced up at odds of 7/1 with Coral – Deposit £5 & Receive £20 Free Bets for New Customers.

The Draw is probably the best result that Schalke 04 can hope for in this game, but even that looks unlikely what with the power of the Real Madrid attack, but for those that think the German side can secure an important draw from this first leg can enjoy odds of 4/1 with Betfred – Bet £10 & Receive £30 Free Bets for New Customers.

Real Madrid are the clear odds on favourites and currently a best price of just 4/9 with BetVictor – £25 Free Bets for New Customers, to win this game on Wednesday night and although these odds do look a bit short, we only have to look at their 6-1 victory at the Veltins Arena last season to see that they do look about right.

Schalke 04 v Real Madrid Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

At this stage of the competition it becomes vital for teams playing the first leg at home to win the game if they are to stand any real chance of progressing through to the next round, but with Schalke 04 missing a number of their star players for this game due to injury and having been completely humiliated by Real Madrid last season 9-2 on aggregate over the two legs, I just can’t see the German side having even a remote chance of getting something from this game.

Real Madrid will be licking their lips in anticipation of scoring heavily again in this first leg match as that then provides their manager Carlo Ancelotti with a chance to rest his star players for the second leg and give some of his fringe players a chance to gain some much needed experience on Europe’s biggest stage.

The average goals per game statistics are expecting this one to see plenty of goals scored on Wednesday night, but it does look like being the visitors doing most of the scoring based on what we have seen from both clubs this season both in their domestic leagues and the group stages of this competition.

As such my Banker Prediction is going to be for Cristiano Ronaldo to Score 2 or more goals, as he always seem to turn up when it counts and with him being responsible for most of the free-kicks and penalties, this does look a good value bet considering value very difficult to come by for this match.

My Saver is going to be for Real Madrid to Win Both Halves as I fully expect them to start this game on the front foot in order to try and obtain the first goal of the match and once they get it, there really is no way back for Schalke 04.
