Leeds United v Leicester City Preview, Championship, Saturday 18th January 2014

Leeds United dropped far too many league positions than they would of liked after last weekends embarrassing loss to relegation battling side Sheffield Wednesday. I predicted a win for Leeds United who were tipped to be the better side and then out of know where the victors turned on a display of magic with scoring six goals to Leeds United’s nothing. Leeds United were in a position of seriously needing a win and their season starts to fall apart around them after now losing four on the trot and not winning a game since mid December. This year hasn’t proved to fruitful for the home side and I cannot see that form improving against Leicester City who are in exceptional form right now.

Leicester City had a terrible December with losing three games including the loss to Manchester City in the Capital One Cup and had to wait until the end of the month for a much needed win against other title challengers Queens Park Rangers. But with that win out of the way Leicester City have seen the New Year in with style having won four league games on the bounce and seeing them now four points clear atop the Championships. Saturdays game will still be a tough match for Leicester City with being away from home and they will unlikely wish to drop points against a side who are in such terrible form, with doing so allowing Barnsley and Queens Park Rangers the opportunity to close the gap.

Leeds United v Leicester City Team News

Leeds United v Leicester City News:

No immediate injury worries for the Leeds United squad although they are missing Matt Smith who is currently serving a suspension  after earning himself a straight red in the heavy loss to Sheffield Wednesday. Its a big blow for Leeds United with Smith having scored 7 goals so far this season, yet luckily leading scorer McCormack will be set to start on Saturday. The Scottish striker has netted 17 times in 25 games so far this season.

Leicester City News

No reported injury issues for the away side Leicester City for Saturdays game although they will be missing Manchester Uniteds loan player Jesse Lingard who had an incredible spell at the Championship club recently. They have however signed veteran striker Kevin Phillips this week and the 40 year old could be set to feature at some point come Saturday.

Leeds United v Leicester City Head to Head Statistics

In the below head to head statistics you can see it is Leeds United who are the better team and even in the 84 games played in total Leeds come out winners with 31 wins to Leicester City’s 28. Yet we need to consider the form of both clubs and you would have to favour the away side Leicester City for this match.

11/08/13 CHA Leicester City – Leeds United
0 : 0
05/03/13 CHA Leicester City – Leeds United
1 : 1
27/11/12 CHA Leeds United – Leicester City
1 : 0
28/04/12 CHA Leeds United – Leicester City
1 : 2
06/11/11 CHA Leicester City – Leeds United
0 : 1

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In these 84 games previously played we have seen a total of 259 goals scored both home and away which gives us an average of 3 goals per game. Yet if we look at the last 5 head to head statistics that result seems unlikely. But lets not consider the above as this season is proving to be very different for Leicester City who right now sit comfortably at the top of the Championship table.

Leeds United v Leicester City Recent Form (Left to Right)

Leeds United: L L L L D

Leicester City: W L W W W

With still occupying first place in the English Championship we see Leicester City as the more dominant team with the clear form advantage here, and the fact Leeds United got stomped on by Sheffield Wednesday who a week before that were fighting it out in the leagues relegation battle. Leicester City’s only loss in the last 5 games was in the FA Cup to Premiership side Stoke City.

Leeds United v Leicester City Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

I predicted Leeds United to get their form back on track against a relegation side who where themselves struggling for form. But after being absolutely thrashed by Sheffield Wednesday six goals to nil I cannot seem them bouncing back from that against a Leicester City side who are in the form of their lives currently.

I know Leeds United have won more of their head to head battles against Leicester City and we also need to consider that Leicester City have only won twelve times out of the twenty eight wins away from home. But lets be realistic here, look at the form of both clubs and the fact Leeds United are a shadow of their Premiership past you must seriously feel this game is in the away sides hands on Saturday.

So lets get busy on some prediction for Saturday lunchtimes game and throw the history regarding the head to head statistics out of the window. Because lets face it, this season those facts do not show the true nature of how both sides have been playing in this years campaign. With Leeds United missing Smith due to suspension the home side will once more be relying heavily on the Scot McCormack is in in exceptional form this season. So with Leeds playing at home you could see them grab at least one goal which leads me to my first prediction of both teams to score and Leicester City to win. The other I am going for is Total Goals Over 3.5 which could prove to be worth it they way both sides are playing right now.
