England v France Preview, International Friendly, Tuesday 17th November 2015

England head into this game having lost their first match since way back last year in Brazil in the World Cup group stages. It did come at the hands of talented side Spain who did outplay England on the night in the Spanish capital. With goals from Mario Gaspar and Arsenal’s midfield star Cazorla, the Spanish eventually broke down this England side twenty minutes from the end with a spectacular effort. This friendly marked the first of four before the Championships next year and all opponents will be extremely tough and test this young England side. Next March will be Englands last two friendlies before the competition, in which they face World Cup Champions Germany, and then the Netherlands a few days later. But before that they need to impress at home against France who themselves beat Germany 2 – 0 in Paris Friday night.

I have nothing but admiration for France, it’s fans and the nation team for playing this game Tuesday night. Having just beaten Germany 2 – 0 the city of Paris was then hit by a succession of terror attacks in which the explosions could be heard at the football ground. Without delving too deep, the country suffered over one hundred and twenty deaths as a result and even the countries President, who was at the football ground, had to be rushed to safety due to the blasts being so close. Enough on that matter and lets talk about the football France have been playing. Since the World Cup France have only played friendly games due to being the hosts of next years EURO Championships, and have since then lost three, drawn twice and won ten, with the last five games being wins on the trot.

England Team News

England will be without in form striker Jamie Vardy due to injury, as well as recent addition Michael Carrick who has ankle ligament damage. We could see Eric Dier make his full debut alongside Jonjo Shelvey who has recently put in some good shifts for his county. In goal we could see Jack Butland although Joe Hart is the more likely. Manchester United youngster Jesse Lingard has earned a call up and could feature at some stage of the match.

France Team News

France have a fully fit squad to face England at Wembley on Tuesday night, with none of the players choosing to opt out after the recent terror attacks on the capital. Sadly Lassana Diarra lost his cousin during the attacks but has still traveled with the squad to London. Antoine Griezmann also had his sisters health at stakes with her being at the Bataclan theatre where 89 people where killed on the night.

England v France Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head encounters we have pretty much seen France come out on top with three wins and a couple of draws. The French beat England at Wembley on five years ago with the other four fixtures all being away from home. In total we have 29 games played recorded, with England actually out on top with 16 wins and 5 draws. France themselves have won on 8 occasions and have of course been the better team in the last fifteen years.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 29 games played out between these two nations we have seen a total of 103 goals scored overall. This is going to give us an average of 3.5 goals per game which is far above what has been achieved in the last five games played. We would be better going for the below selection come Tuesday night.

England v France Recent Form (Left to Right)

England: L W W W W

France: W W W W W

In the last five games we do see that it is France who are the better team in form right now having won all five of their most recent games, including the recent 2 – 0 win over World Cup winners Germany. England however don’t need to be too downhearted as they have only lost once sine the World Cup back in Brazil last year.

England v France Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

This international friendly Tuesday night can be seen live at Wembley in London as well as on ITV 1 High Definition if you can’t make the match personally. It features home side England verses France who recently beat World Cup winners Germany two goals to nil. England themselves suffered their first loss since way back in Brazil during the World Cup Group stages, and have also done amazingly well having topped the group during the EURO Championship Qualifiers.

France of course have not needed to qualify for next years competition, with the nation being the hosts. They have however had plenty of friendly matches having lost three, drawn twice and won ten. Their recent run is the best however, having won the last five games in a row including a 1 – 0 win over Portugal and of course a 2 – 0 victory against Germany last Friday. England ended their fifteen game unbeaten run when they traveled to Madrid Friday, then losing 2 – 0 the Spain. The loss did come with two cracking goals and even though England did lose there was nothing too bad to be said about their performance.

My predictions for Tuesday nights game does tend to favour that of the draw and I do feel at least two goals will be scored on the night. So for my bankers tip I plan to take both teams to score and for the game to end as a draw. On the other hand I am worried both sets of players minds will not be in the match this Tuesday, this is purely down to the non footballing issues of what France experienced in Paris by the terrorists in which over one hundred and twenty people died. That said I do still see France potentially winning the match, and plan to take a correct score of 1 – 0.
