Watford v Arsenal Preview, Premiership, Saturday 17th October 2015

Watford have started life in the Premiership this season in good fashion as their current 12th position in the league table shows but their latest game saw them lose 1-0 at home against Crystal Palace and the signs are definitely beginning to show that they are in for a long hard season.

Arsenal head into this game just 2pts behind current league leaders Manchester City and all the players and fans will see this match as one that they should definitely win if they are to have any real hopes of trying to win the title this season and despite a couple of slip ups in the UEFA Champions League Arsene Wengers side do look like a side that can be right up their next year alongside City and Chelsea.

Watford Team News:

Watford have been boosted by the news that Valon Behrami, Ikechi Anya (both calf), Allan Nyom (knee) have all returned to training this week and should be available for selection.

Quique Sanchez Flores is also hopeful over Jose Manuel Jurado, whom he expects to return from a hamstring injury by the middle of November.

Arsenal Team News:

Arsene Wenger will check on the fitness of Alexis Sanchez (hip) following his return from Chile duty.

Arsenal could be boosted by the return of centre-back Laurent Koscielny, who has been out since the end of September with a hamstring injury, while midfielders Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini are also in contention for Saturday’s late kick-off.

But England duo Jack Wilshere and Danny Welbeck, meanwhile, continue their rehabilitation following leg and knee surgery respectively.

Watford v Arsenal Head to Head Statistics:

Saturday evening’s game from Vicarage Road Stadium will become the 17th meeting between the two clubs over the years, of which Watford have won 8 with 5 of those having came with home advantage where as Arsenal have managed 7 victories, with just 3 of those having came away from home.

As we can see from our head to head statistics table below which shows the last five meetings between the two clubs, it has been Arsenal who have dominated recent proceedings having managed to win 4 times compared to Watford having won just the 1.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

51 Goals have been scored in the previous 16 meetings between the two clubs and this provides us with an overall average goals per game statistic of 3.19.

28 of those Goals have came in the 8 previous matches played at Vicarage Road Stadium and this generates us an average goal scoring statistic of exactly 3.50.

Based on both sets of data shown above, it does seem to indicate that this game should see a minimum of at least two goals scored and I would expect Arsenal to be the side scoring the majority of them.

Watford v Arsenal Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Watford have it all to do here in my opinion as although they have not done that badly in the opening couple of months of the new season, their defeat at home last time out against Crystal Palace will have been a bitter blow for everyone involved at the club and with now having to face a very strong looking Arsenal side, I can’t really see anything esle but a comfortable away win here happening on Saturday evening.

Arsenal have been a huge dissappointment in the Champions League so far and do look unlikely to go much further in that tournament unless they get very fortunate, but that could be a blessing for the club as that would then leave them to concentrate fully on securing their first Premiership league title for 12 years.

Obviously the visitors would need to win this game if they are to keep in the hunt for the title and I am sure that Arsene Wenger will be making importance of that fact to his players during his pre-match team talk and I don’t really see them coming up short here, especially with Walcott and Giroud having played very well during the International break.

Onto some predictions then and my Banker Free Tip is going to be Arsenal -1.5 Goals on the Asian Handicap as I fully expect them to win this match by at least two goals come Saturday evening with Walcott and Giroud probably both having grabbed one each at some point during the game.

My First Goalscorer Free Tip will be for Oliver Giroud to Score the First Goal of the game as I am hoping that Arsene Wenger starts both him and Walcott in the starting lineup for this one.
