Swansea City v Manchester United Preview, Premiership, Saturday 17th August 2013

Swansea have had a busy pre-season with only one friendly in July in which they had thrashed Reading 3 goals to nil, and then this month they have been busy taking part in the Europa League Qualifiers in which they beat Malmo FF 4 – 0 on aggregate. That did come over two games with Swansea taking the advantage of being at home to score all of there goals and it hasn’t taken long for new boy Bony to make his mark scoring two goals on the night. With other goals from prolific striker Michu and Pozuelo it has seen the Welsh side sail through into the next qualifying play-off stage against Petrolul Ploies on Thursday the 22nd August.

Manchester United have already kicked off their season with a win over Championship side Wigan at Wembley in the FA Community shield last weekend in which last seasons goal scoring hero Robin van Persie scored both goals in the 2 – 0 win. Still much of the news is clouded by will he or wont he in regards to once fan favourite Wayne Rooney leaving or staying at Old Trafford. With Rooney controversially being excluded from pre-season due to injury and then joining the England squad for Wednesday nights game against Scotland in which England won 3-2 with a headed goal from Danny Welbeck and a lovely through ball by Cleverley for England’s first goal scored by the Arsenal striker Walcott.

Swansea City v Manchester United Team News

Swansea City Team News:

Swansea boss Michael Laudrup has been busy all summer with signing some very good names with the likes of Wilfried Bony from Vitesse Arnhem and of course the ex Liverpool and England midfielder Jonjo Shelvey for 5 million. In total Swansea have spent just over 20 mill with Bony costing a healthy 12.2 million and what an impact he has made already scoring a couple of goals in the Europa League Qualifiers. It total Laudrup has signed 8 new faces and also seen 7 leave, be it sold or on loan.

Manchester United Team News:

David Moyes has been very busy trying to sign a wold class midfielder with Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas again subject of a club record bid in the next few days with reports of a 40 million pound bid close. But with other names also being included as targets no one knows which new names will be joining the English Champions before the end of the transfer market. The only new name to join this season is promising right back Guillermo Varela who will not be featuring in the first team just yet and United have also seen Federico Macheda and Bebe return from loan. In other news Manchester United are sorry to see club legend Paul Scholes retire at the age of 38 and although he was offered a coaching role he has since turned it down to finally spend time with his family.

Who Has The Advantage?

Swansea have never beaten Manchester United in what information I have found, but with their current form during preseason and with Manchester United under new management this could be their first time. Its a tough one but I do feel the Welsh outfit have the upper hand here when it comes down to the advantage.

Average Goals Per Game?

With only 11 goals being scored in the last 5 meetings it gives us an average of 2.2 goals which proves Swansea City are a tough challenge for Manchester United.

Swansea by far are the better team in form here but then they are facing the English Champions so hard to give them the advantage here, although Swansea have proven to be tough opponents in the past.

Regardless of Manchester United low par pre-season I still think this is a game they should be winning and with van Persie already on target last weekend with a brace I am going for a United win with Robin van Persie as a first goal scorer
