Leeds United v Sheffield Wednesday Preview, English Championship, Saturday 17th August 2013

A good start so far for Leeds having won 2 and drawn 1 to date and although Leeds United boss Brian McDermott being frustrated with the lack of new faces at the club and is worried his side are lacking depth within the squad. With center defense and wide players on his wish list McDermott has been left short when in pursuit on certain targets and although he has managed to add some new players to his squad he is still worried the continued work to try and bring in new names might end up failing with under a month until transfer deadline day.

Sheffield Wednesday have fallen fate to a horrid start to their campaign suffering 4 straight defeats with also exiting the Capital One Cup in the first round to Rotherham with a 2-1 loss and experienced manager Dave Jones was very quick to criticize winger Jermaine Johnson who was rightly sent off after a head butt 12 minutes from time. Jones had said he just cannot defend such stupidity and that you can’t just go around and head butt other players. It’s hard enough fighting back with 11 men and then only for you to lose a man to something so stupid and now Jones has lost his man for a further 3 matches following his red card.

Leeds United v Sheffield Wednesday Team News

Leeds United Team News:

For the last week Leeds fans have been looking forward to the Scotland international and Brighton and Hove captain Gordon Greer switching sides and joining The Whites, but sadly all bids have been turned down for the solid center half and he has instead chose to sign a new contract with his current club ending further pursuit for his signature. The news was a massive blow for the Leeds manager who had his heart on the player joining which would of filled the gaps McDermott is so keen to fill. In other news Leeds fans will be pleased to see club captain Rudy Austin come back from injury and soon was impressing in the center of the park and Brian McDermott will be hoping his influential skipper can now stay fit for the upcoming battle ahead.

Sheffield Wednesday Team News:

Chairman Milan Mandaric has released a statement that he is still looking to recruit new talent to the club but admits to needing to release a handful of players to do so. The Owls are looking to freshen up the squad for their 2nd season in the Championship and feel a few new names to the playing staff is something that is important for them if they are to stay in this league. Being short in a few key areas is worrying and Mandaric has said of Dave Jones squad that he is looking to release a number of players and then replace them with a higher quality player and has admitted to needing at least 4 or 5 to complete the task, and has said the club is looking to achieve this by the end of the month.

Leeds United v Sheffield Wednesday Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

With the way Sheffield Wednesday are playing I just can’t see them pushing for the win here and with looking at Leeds recent results its showing them score a couple of goals per game with the exception of last Sunday’s game against Leicester. So I am going to go for a 2 – 0 and a 2 – 1 correct score win by Leeds United.
