Spain v Turkey Preview, Euro 2016 Finals, Group D, Friday 17th June 2016.

We’ve come to expect better from this Spanish side who struggled to break down a Czech Republic team that offered very little. There was just the one goal in the match which came extremely late on with just a few minutes left on the clock. Spain bombarded their opponents with continued pressure late on in the game so the winner didn’t come as much of a surprise when Gerard Pique finally scored.

Spain will be favourites to add another three points to their tally come the end of Fridays game when they meet Turkey although we also know their opponents wont just sit back and roll over with Turkey themselves needing a win to progress. Spain will also want to win this one with a little less stress as seen in their previous game, as a fixture against Croatia looms and that certainly wont be an easy game for either sides.

Turkey just couldn’t fight back to earn a draw against Croatia in their opening game of the competition with Luka Modric earning all three points for his nation. We know it will be a must win for Turkey on Friday night although a draw and win against the Czech Republic could see it depending on other results in all of the groups.

Croatia are a tough side but Spain will be an even bigger test and unless Turkey find some much needed form we could see Turkey as one of the first teams booking their flights to go home early. Even if they lose against Spain on Friday, and then beat Czech Republic I can’t see three points being enough to take Turkey through to the next round coming third. Although Spain have not been as good as previous years they are still the Champions of this competition, which does leave Turkey as the major underdogs.

Spain Team News:

Spain have no major injury worries ahead of this fixture on Friday and reports are in that Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea will continue between the goal posts ahead of the countries captain Iker Casillas. Vincente Del Bosque is finding it hard to leave out Casillas who has won an impressive 167 caps for his country.

Turkey Team News:

Arda Turan was terrible against Croatia and issued an apology to the nations fans after they lost 1 – 0, so eyes will be on him come Friday in hope of some much needed improvements against the current holders Spain who haven’t lost in this competition in some time.

Spain v Turkey Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five games played it is Spain who come out on top with three wins and the two draws. In total they have only met on seven occasions and the only time Turkey have beaten Spain was way back in 1954 during a World Cup Qualifiers. In total Spain have won four leaving the remaining two games ending as draws seen below.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the seven games played against each other we have seen a total of sixteen goals scored. This is going to give us a goals per game average of 2.3 which I do feel is more than acceptable when the two meet again this Friday night. I think the below option for this game is a good selection with the best odds seen here.

Turkey: L W W L W

Although Spain have recorded a loss in their last five games it was only a friendly before the competition started. They did win their opening game against Czech Republic where as their opponents Turkey lost 1 – 0 against Croatia. It will be a must win game for Turkey who will not want to be going home early from the competition.

Spain v Turkey Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

EURO 2016 Group D action this Friday night can be viewed live via ITV High Definition and features the competition Champions Spain verses Turkey who have yet to win a point. A win will see Spain alongside hosts France in the knockout stages with Croatia the likelier of the other group members joining them. This does of course depend on their result against the Czech Republic who themselves lost their opening game against Spain 1 – 0.

Spain are of course one of the bookmakers favourites to win this competition even though they experienced a terrible time in Brazil during the World Cup. Spain never made it into the knockout stages and like other nations such as England, went home very early in the competition. Something I can imagine they will not want to experience this time round especially as they are the worthy holders of the competition.

Turkey could still qualify if they lose against Spain on Friday, although it is unlikely as it will depend on so many other results throughout the other group fixtures. Turkey know they are the serious underdogs for this game and it will of course take a lot of pressure off of the side who seemed to struggle against Croatia due to their experienced players not playing to their full potential.

Turkey are a reasonably strong side yet coming up against a side such as Spain I just can’t see them producing anything to exciting as they look for a rare win. They have only beaten Spain once in the past, which is well over sixty years ago so means very little. My predictions for this game does see Spain win with ease, and I am hoping they start to play close to their best with showing some exciting football much like we get to witness in the La Liga.

My banker will be for Spain to win the game and I can’t see them conceding during the match as they possess some top defensive talents. Spain don’t concede too often and in their last five fixtures have only picked the ball out of the net on three occasions. My next will be for a correct score of Spain to win 2 – 0. I just feel after looking at previous results, and the head to head battles already take place just two goals could be enough so seal progression into the knockout stages with a game still left to play.
