Southampton v Manchester United Preview, Premiership, Wednesday 17th May 2017.

Although Southampton have little to play for now there is still one league position up for grabs. There is little difference between ninth place, where they are now, and eight with West Bromwich Albion on joint points and in their way. Southampton do face Manchester United at the best time possible with them losing their last two league games in a row. Arsenal and more recently Tottenham Hotspurs finally put an end to United’s unbeaten run.

It’s not been a bad season for Southampton who will finish both of their remaining games at home. After Manchester United their last game of the season will be against Stoke City who themselves have managed to avoid relegation this year round. If they do win their remaining games they will still finish a minimum of ten points behind Everton who themselves only have one game left of the season to play.

The season is pretty much over for Manchester United in terms of the Premier League potential table finish with Arsenal very unlikely to drop points in their remaining two games of the season. The loses to Arsenal and more recently Tottenham Hotspurs finally put an end to the clubs possible top four finish. Sadly for United they have drawn far too many games this season and if they had managed to convert them to wins could of won the title.

Manchester United’s last game of the season will be at home to Crystal Palace who right now are a very hard team to beat. Crystal Palace themselves managed to avoid relegation in the end and have beaten some big clubs recently to do so. Although Manchester United are the favourites to win both these games, you must feel nervous when placing a bet on them in any circumstance.

Southampton Team News :

Southampton have no new injury concerns coming into this home tie although they have welcomed a couple of players back to their squad with them training this week. Alex McCarthy has returned from a hamstring injury while Charlie Austin could make his first start in a very long time. Virgil van Dijk has also recovered from a foot injury and one of those who has returned to training.

Manchester United Team News :

The main news for Manchester United will be that they are once again without Paul Pogba. This is due to the midfielder losing his father recently and has of course been given compassionate leave. Daley Blind is being rested against Southampton but we will no doubt see the return of Fellaini having served his ban. Ibrahimovic, Marcos Rojo (both knee), Ashley Young (hamstring), Luke Shaw (foot) and Tim Fosu-Mensah (shoulder) are out through injury.

Southampton v Manchester United Head to Head Statistics:

We can tell the last few years have been rough for Manchester United as they have lost twice in the last five fixtures played. What makes it worse is that the loses game at Old Trafford which has since lost its fear factor. In total the two clubs have met on 83 occasions with Manchester United winning an impressive 48. They have lost 17 and drawn a total of 18 throughout the years.

Southampton: W L D D L

Manchester United: L D L W D

Manchester United have been in very good form having not lost a game for many months, yet recently they have managed to lose twice in the Premier League which in turn has lost them any chance of a top four Champions League finish. The clubs only chance now is to beat Ajax in the Europa League final which comes on my birthday the 24th May.

Southampton v Manchester United Match Betting Odds Market

Southampton have a very good chance at beating Manchester United this Wednesday with them now having very little to play for in the Premiership. The bookmakers best current odds of the home win can be seen coming in here @ 17/10 with BetVictor – Bet £10 & Receive £60 Free Bets & Bonus when Registering a New Account

The Draw could be a good option this Wednesday with both teams having very little to play for buy pride. I know for one Jose Mourinho will not be happy if United settle for anything less than a win, with that a platform to rebuild lost confidence in recent weeks. best odds on the draw found here @ 23/10 with BetVictor – Bet £10 & Receive £60 Free Bets & Bonus when Registering a New Account

Southampton v Manchester United Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Premiership action is soon coming to a close with only two games left to play for both these teams. Southampton have to play Manchester United on Wednesday and then another home tie against Stoke City to finish it off. Manchester United have this away tie and then a game at Old Trafford where they meet tough side Crystal Palace for their last game of the season.

This fixture on Wednesday can be seen live via Sky Sports 1 and of course in high definition. Manchester United are the slight favourites as would be expected, yet they could once again be surprised with another loss if they are not careful. Although Southampton have lost three of their last five games, they did manage to pick up points against Liverpool away and Hull City at home, which has kept them in the run in for a top eight finish.

Manchester United know now that their only way into the Champions League this season is by winning the Europa League competition. Where they face tough Dutch side Ajax who beat Lyon in the previous round to reach the final. United did make a huge meal of their last round opponents with Celta Vigo pushing them to the ultimate limits. Although they were the better side and did deserve to be in the final, you cant help but be worried for them.

My predictions for this game does lean more towards a draw of some sort, with the last seen back in 2014 at this same ground. With that I am going to go for both teams to score as the last time either failed to score was fifty three games ago. The next I am going to go for is for Manchester United to restore a little pride with them winning by two goals to nil, leaving them with some confidence to then face Crystal Palace in their final remaining game.
