Hull City v Derby County Preview, Championship Play-Off Semi-Final 2nd Leg, Tuesday 17th May 2016.

It’s looking good for Steve Bruce’s side Hull City coming into this 2nd leg, after they completely humiliated  Derby County away from home in a 3 – 0 romp. It surely must be in the bag for hull City who are looking to bounce straight back up into the Premier League. They will still need to either beat Sheffield Wednesday or Brighton & Hove Albion in the final however, with it looking more than likely to be Wednesday after they currently lead 2 – 0 from their 1st leg.

Hull City finished their Championship season strongly with only the two loses in their last ten league matches, with one of these being a 4 – 0 loss away from home to Derby County back at the beginning of April. How things were different this time when they met last Saturday. If they had won the two of the losses instead then it would of been Hull City in the automatic promotion spots instead of Middlesbrough who finished in second place.

Now we do know Derby County do have it in them to score plenty of goals with them already putting four past Hull City at home back in April. They did also beat Hull City at the Kingston Communications Stadium at the end of last year, although will need to score three or more to have any chance after the 1st leg domination of Hull City. Goals however isn’t something they have been blessed with in recent weeks having only scored twice in the last four fixtures.

Derby County finished five points behind Hull City in the final standings yet could of finished in fourth if they had managed to beat Cardiff City in April, and then not lose on the last day of the season to Ipswich Town who just finished outside the play-off positions. They did earn some tough draws against Brighton & Hove Albion, as well as Sheffield Wednesday who themselves are fighting it out for that final match at Wembley against who ever wins in this fixture come Tuesday.

Hull City Team News:

Hull City may not be able to feature Allan McGregor on Tuesday with the goalkeeper having suffered a back injury in the 1st leg. He is however 50/50 and I am sure the team and fans will be wanting to see their no.1 stopper as Hull look to book their spot in the final. Manchester United loanee Nick Powell is still missing with a thigh strain which is Steve Bruce’s only other injury concern.

Derby County Team News:

No fresh injury concerns for Derby County boss Darren Wassall who has the same squad available come Tuesday. They are without George Thorne who suffered a horrendous double leg break in the last game of the season against Ipswich Town. With County now needing plenty of goals they maybe forced to start Andreas Weimann who was left out of the 1st leg last Saturday.

Hull City v Derby County Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five games played and in the final run in to the end of the season we can clearly see it is Hull City who have enjoyed the better results. With them now three goals up on aggregate its surely in Hull City’s hands to hold on and progress into the final at Wembley. They will be playing either Sheffield Wednesday who are two goals up, or Brighton & Hove Albion who now have a small mountain to climb.

Hull City v Derby County Match Betting Odds Market

Hull City come into the game having already won the away tie 3 – 0 so surely this home fixture will allow them to relax a little more? I can’t see that being allowed by Steve Bruce who will want to take his team out on Tuesday looking for yet again, another win. best odds on the home win found here @ 23/20 with Bet365 – Receive £200 Matched Bets when You Register a New Account

The Draw could very well be an option here, but lets be honest it hasn’t been seen in a while between the two clubs. Although I feel Derby County will come out and play better football this time, I still don’t feel they can take away either a win or two. Derby County have a massive mountain to climb Tuesday night with them now needing to beat this Hull City side with another 4 – 0 win. Hull City v Derby County Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Championship Play-Off action this Tuesday night can be viewed live on Sky Sports 2 High Definition, with the 2nd leg close to being underway with Hull City currently leading Derby County 3 – 0 on aggregate. Here we can see it is now Hull City who have the home advantage and with the club high in confidence I just cannot imagine Steve Bruce’s side losing this game on Tuesday. It would mean Hull City bounce straight back up into the Premiership after being relegated last season.

I have to say now it is certainly Hull City who will be the favourites to progress into the final and also win there at Wembley, and once again booking their place in the worlds biggest and best league, the Premiership. With a solid run in to the end of the season it was nice to see they managed to jump up into forth place just six points behind Brighton & Hove Albion and promoted Middlesbrough who had the higher goal difference ever so slightly.

Derby County however didn’t finish as strong as they would of hoped with them dropping points at home to Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich Town, as well as the draw away from home against Brighton & Hove Albion. They finished eleven points off of the top three and to be honest if they did manage to win all of their last ten games in the normal season then they would of just scrapped through with an automatic promotion and finishing in second place.

The chances of Derby County pulling back a 3 – 0 deficit are not looking the greatest sadly even though the club have managed to win with ease against the likes of Hull City this season. Having beaten them at this ground back in November as well as a 4 -0 drumming at home this year you couldn’t of helped but think Derby County were the favourites to progress into the final at the expense of Hull City.

My predictions for this game does fancy Hull City to do a proper job and of course win the game come Tuesday night. I am however actually thinking as my banker prediction to take both teams to score and Hull City to win. To be fair you could even go the other way especially if you fancy Derby County to come back from their current 3 – 0 deficit and actually put up a good game. The other I am going for is a correct score guess of Hull City to win the game 2 – 1, with it having a very good chance of coming in.
