Manchester United v Arsenal Preview, Premiership, Sunday 17th May 2015

All Manchester United fans and their players will know the importance of winning this game on Sunday afternoon as failure to pick up 3pts would mean that Manchester United would need to go through the qualification stage of the Champions League to reach the group phase and that won’t be something that they will want to do, so I do expect United to provide Arsenal with a real test in this game.

Arsenal are 2pts clear of their hosts and also have a game in hand, so they can afford to draw this match if they wanted to as that would mean they only needed a point from their last two matches which are against Sunderland and West Brom to secure that final group stage Champions League place so I would expect Arsenal to try and play lots of possession and use the counter attack to their advantage.

Manchester United Team News:

The hosts will be without Wayne Rooney and Luke Shaw for this game as both players picked up injuries in the hard fought 2-1 victory last weekend and they join Michael Carrick and Rafael who are out for the rest of the season due to their injury related problems. Marcos Rojo, Angel Di Maria and Robin Van Persie are all carrying slight knocks and will all under take a late fitness test to see if any of then can be involved.

Arsenal Team News:

The visitors will be without Danny Welbeck and Mathieu Debuchy for this game as both players continue to receive treatment for respective injury problems, other than those two players though manager Arsene Wenger has a full squad at his disposal.

Manchester United v Arsenal Head to Head Statistics:

Sunday afternoon’s game from Old Trafford will become the 180th meeting between the two clubs over the years, of which Manchester United have won 77 times (53 at Old Trafford) where as Arsenal have won 61 times (15 Old Trafford),  and there has been 41 Draws (22 at Old Trafford).

The previous 5 meetings below in our head to head statistics show neither side having any real advantage in this game as both clubs have won 2 games each with the remaining one having finished in a draw.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

507 Goals have been scored in the previous 179 meetings between the two clubs and this provides us with an overall average goals per game statistic of 2.83

239 of those Goals have came in the 90 previous matches played at Old Trafford and this generates us an average goal scoring statistic of 2.65

Both sets of data shown above seem to suggest that we should see at least a couple of goals grace the back of the nets come Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United v Arsenal Match Betting Odds Market

Manchester United are the surprising favourites to win this game at a current best price of 8/5 with BetVictor – £25 Free Bets For New Customers and this does seem a bit on the short side considering they have lost three of their last five matches and have a hole host of injuries to key players.

The Draw has happened twice in the previous five matches between the two clubs and would be a sensible decision to get on here at a current best price of 5/2 with Bet365 – Bet £10 & Receive £20 Free Bets for New Customers.

Manchester United v Arsenal Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Manchester United’s chances of winning this game have taken a major blow this week as their injury list has grown quite substantial now that Luke Shaw and Wayne Rooney have been added to it and I don’t really fancy their chances of winning this game going up against a strong looking Arsenal side who will be looking for revenge after losing against United at the Emirates Stadium earlier in the season.

The average goals per game statistics are expecting this one to see between two or three goals scored so there should be plenty of opportunities for first goalscorer and anytime goalscorer bets to be had.

However my Banker Prediction for this game is going to be for Arsenal to Win as for me they look to have the stronger squad available for this one and having already beaten United at Old Trafford this season 2-1 in the FA Cup I would expect to see a similar score line come Sunday afternoon.

My Saver prediction is going to be for Alexis Sanchez to Score 2 or More Goals as he really has been excellent in an Arsenal shirt this season and he will definitely see this game as a chance to end his season on a high note up against a very good team.
