Leicester City v West Ham United Preview, Premiership, Sunday 17th April 2016.

Premiership leaders Leicester City have a lot to do on Sunday when they host West Ham United at the King Power Stadium. A win will see them go ten points clear at the top of the table and pile on the pressure for Tottenham Hotspurs who face Stoke City away from home on Monday night. If Spurs do lose that game it could mean Leicester City could win the league title at home against Swansea City!

There is still a lot of ‘ifs and ‘buts’ in regard to Leicester City continuing their form, but me personally I cannot see them dropping too many points in their final five games remaining. They still have Manchester United at Old Trafford and Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, buts lets be honest here these past champions haven’t been at their best this season and could even lose again to this red hot Leicester side.

West Ham United come into this game on the back of a loss to Manchester United in the FA Cup Quarter Finals which does end a run of ten games without a loss. They have recently managed to draw against United in the FA Cup as well as Arsenal and Chelsea in the Premier League, keeping them just four points adrift a Champions League finishing spot, which would of course come at the expense of Manchester City.

West Ham United have a reasonable run in to the end of the season with only Manchester United and Leicester City left as their toughest opponents. West Bromwich Albion, Watford and Swansea City are also on West Hams fixture list, but now they are considered safe enough from the drop they could have little to play for and drop more points.

Leicester City Team News:

Leicester City have no new injury worries coming into this tough fixture which will no doubt see Claudio Ranieri name the same squad which has been seen in twelve of their last fourteen games played. The clubs only player currently out injured is that of Matthew James who is out for the rest of the season with crucial knee ligament damage.

West Ham United Team News:

West Ham see two defenders return to the team for selection with Sam Byram missing the FA Cup due to being cup tied. Winston Reid also returns after having a tight hamstring against Manchester United. Diafra Sakho misses the game after suffering a knock to his knee but is due to be back in training next week.

Leicester City v West Ham United Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Premier League action this Sunday can be seen live on Sky Sports 1 High Definition and features league leaders Leicester City verses top four chasing side West Ham United. If Leicester City win on Sunday it will leave them a healthy ten points clear of Tottenham Hotspurs who currently sit in second place. Spurs then have to face Stoke City on Monday night in hopes of a win to keep up the title race.

Leicester City have been exceptional all season and come into this game on the back of five wins without conceding a goal. Granted four of these fixtures have been 1 – 0 victories but we all know that a win is a win even if you are not playing the same as previously. With just five games left to play, wins on Sunday and against Swansea City next could potentially see Leicester City crowned champions. This does of course depend on Tottenham Hotspurs result on Monday night.

West Ham United are a sore sight recently but only because they have played so well this season and finally end a game of ten games undefeated against Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter final reply. Their previous four games were all draws and against tough teams which has sadly seen them drop off slightly from the top four race.

However a rare away win against Leicester City on Sunday could help them keep that dream alive and also in the process gift neighbours Tottenham Hotspurs a chance to regain some ground in the final games of the season. West Ham do have some easier games coming up so could keep up the pressure on the Manchester clubs who currently occupy 4th and 5th place.

My predictions for this game will be simple I feel even if I do fancy Leicester City to continue their winning streak while beating a downtrodden West Ham United since their FA Cup exit. But for my banker I feel playing is safe would be the best bet so plan to take 2 to 3 goals scored on the day. This is mainly based on the clubs last five games played against each other. My next prediction will be that of Leicester City to win the game 2 – 0.
