PSG v Chelsea Preview, Champions League, Last 16 1st Leg, Tuesday, 17th February 2015.

Paris st Germain are by far the team the were last season when they basically dominate the French Ligue 1. This year they are in third position and joint with Marseille with 49 points. Where as Lyon are in first with two points to spare and a whole eleven points in front of expected challengers Monaco. PSG are one of the few team to have beaten Spanish giants Barcelona this year although Barcelona did get their revenge when PSG paid visit to Spain for the last group game. PSG eventually finished in second position behind Barcelona, with only a draw needed between the two to allow PSG to finish top of the group and end up with the easier tie.

Chelsea finished Group G top and found very little resistance doing so with four wins and two draws to complete their fixtures and a whole five points clear. The English club are also dominating the Premier League and currently sit seven points clear above current Champions Manchester City. Chelsea however did see themselves exit from the FA Cup in recent weeks, where they lost to League One side Bradford City. Chelsea have not been the only team Bradford City have knocked out, with them now dismissing Sunderland in the 5th round to complete their giant killer run.

PSG Team News:

PSG have had only the one injury this year where Argentine Javier Pastore picked up a calf muscle strain back at the beginning of February. The midfielder has played in twenty two Ligue 1 games scoring twice so far. The clubs top scorer comes as no surprise when talents such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic is in your side. The Swede has netting eleven league goals so far, three in front of Edison Cavani who has eight to his name.

Chelsea Team News:

I have reports that Chelsea are without a couple of midfielders for this game, with the talented youngster Oscar being the first with a knock he picked up in training last week. He could still be selected however as we have no knowledge on his potential return. Obi Mikel is the other with a knee injury he picked up against Aston Villa, and is a doubt for Tuesday nights game.

PSG v Chelsea Head to Head Statistics

In total we have seen five games played out between these two European giants, where English club Chelsea just take the lead with two wins, a loss and two draws. The last and only time Chelsea have won in France against PSG was back in the Champions League during the 2004 season. They did also draw in the second meeting which did see Chelsea top the group and PSG coming bottom with just five points.

PSG v Chelsea Recent Form (Left to Right)

PSG: D W D W W

Chelsea: W W D W L

On paper we see it is French club Paris St Germain who are the better side in form with three wins and a couple of draws to their name. Where as Chelsea have that red mark with the 4 – 2 loss to League One side Bradford City in the FA Cup 4th Round.

PSG v Chelsea Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Champions League action on Tuesday night comes live on ITV 1 High Definition and see’s Chelsea pay visit to French Champions PSG. This season seems to be a little tougher for PSG this year, as other teams seem to have caught them slightly when looking at overall talent in your squad. Chelsea will fancy their chances against PSG on Tuesday as they are by far the better team and in better form coming into this game.

PSG are in third position in the French Ligue 1 table although lets not forget that there is still only a couple of points between them and leaders Lyon. Chelsea on the other hand are dominating the Premiership as they currently sit seven points clear of current Champions Manchester City. Chelsea are now out of the FA Cup although are in the final of the Capital One Cup in which they face Tottenham Hotspurs at Wembley Stadium.

My predictions for this game see either Chelsea winning or drawing the game some how. PSG do not look like the team they were last season which I have no idea why that would be the case. So for my first I am going to go for both teams to score and then Chelsea to win the game, which is going to be a tough one as PSG haven’t lost a home game in Europe in 32 games. The next will be for a 1 – 1 correct score draw guess, which I feel has more than enough merit.
