Lincoln City v Ipswich Town Preview, FA Cup 3rd Round Replay, Tuesday 17th January 2017.

It was almost a dream come true for National League side Lincoln City who challenged Championship side Ipswich Town right up until minutes remaining of the game. After taking the early lead Ipswich Town soon equalized five minutes later going into half time drawing the game. The second half produced another shock goal when Theo Robinson scored his brace to take the visitors into the lead once again.

Sadly for Lincoln City they just couldn’t hold onto the lead and with just four minutes left of the ninety minutes Ipswich Town’s Thomas Lawrence scored his second of the game to save the Championship sides blushes. In the league we do see that Lincoln City are doing exceptionally well being two points clear at the top of the table, while also having two games in hand over closest club Forest Green Rovers.

Ipswich Town were shocked to go down twice to a club so far down the leagues and will no doubt be a little worried on Tuesday night when they have to play at Lincoln City. The away side here will need to play at their best if they do wish to progress especially with them playing in such a small intimidating ground.

Things are not looking too rosy for Ipswich Town in the Championship either with them currently struggling down in fourteenth. With loses to Fulham and Queens Park Rangers recently they have redeemed themselves ever so slightly by beating Blackburn Rovers at the weekend. Some tough games coming up with Huddersfield Town, Preston North End, Derby County and Reading all playing better and above them in the league table.

Lincoln City Team News:

A fair few of Lincoln City’s players were rested in the FA Trophy match against Gateshead and it didn’t seem like they were missed with the league leaders winning the game 3 – 1 away from home. Club captain Luke Waterfall, Nathan Arnold, Robinson, Bradley Wood and Alex Woodyard were all missing yet will no doubt be starting against Ipswich Town.

Ipswich Town Team News:

Ipswich Town have a number of injury issues with David McGoldrick (hamstring), Myles Kenlock (calf) and Brett Pitman (calf) all out. Luke Hyam, Paul Digby and Giles Coke are all out with knee injuries. While Teddy Bishop (ankle), Jonny Williams (shoulder) and Tommy Smith (back) are also unavailable.

Lincoln City v Ipswich Town Head to Head Statistics:

This will be the second time these two have met with the first being ten days ago. Although Ipswich Town got caught napping against the lower league club they will surely be on the ball come the replay on Tuesday.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

With only the one game played in the past we don’t have much else to go with. So in total there has been four goals scored and I do think we could see more of the same come Tuesday night. The below selection could be a good option I feel.

The home side, and lower league side here are by far the better team in form right now and they are currently two points clear and two games in hand enjoying their time at the top. Ipswich Town are really struggling right now sitting in fourteenth position and will really need to start improving if they wish to stay in this division.

Lincoln City v Ipswich Town Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

FA Cup 3rd round replay action this Tuesday brings us National League side Lincoln City verses Championship side Ipswich Town. The game can be viewed live via BBC 1 high definition and we can only hope for some further excitement much like the first game was I am sure. Ipswich Town were seriously caught off guard when they first met ten days ago, but I can imagine this time round they will be much more alert.

Although I know Ipswich Town are the favourites to win on Tuesday night you can’t help but also consider Lincoln City’s chances especially with the form they are currently in. Plenty of players were rested at the weekend for Lincoln so you can only hope we will see a surprise or two when these two meet again. I will be backing Ipswich Town as my banker, but the other will be a long shot in favour of Lincoln City to progress.

Ipswich Town are seriously struggling right now in the Championship with them lingering in a lowly fourteenth position, and although they may well be ten points clear of the relegation zone, things could get worse unless they improve and sharpish. Their next five games may see them beat Lincoln City, it will be the four league games that could prove to be tough with all currently higher in the table rankings than Ipswich.

My predictions for this game do favour that of Ipswich Town to win as my banker tip. For that I am going to go for both teams to score and for the away side to win Tuesday evening. The next I am going for is to actually back Lincoln City to go through come the end of the 90 minutes, be it by an outright win or via the dreaded penalty shootout.
