Derby County v Nottingham Forest Preview, Championship, Saturday 17th January 2014

Derby County have had a great first half to the season and currently sit second place in the Championship level on points with top of the table Bournemouth. Both teams are tied on 48 points and therefore Derby could go top on the weekend if Bournemouth fail to win their match. Steve McClaren’s side will be eager to earn promotion back to the Premier League as it will benefit the club financially and provide them with the resources to keep the club at that level for a consistent amount of time. Derby are full of confidence heading into this encounter after winning four games on the bounce.

Nottingham Forest got off to a flying start to the season and were full of promise sitting near the top of the table however their form took a massive turn for the worst and they are now in 13th place with just 31 points which is worrying for Manager Stuart Pearce. If the players can return to the form that they were in for the opening ten games of the season then I don’t see any reason why they can’t make a late attempt to secure a play-off place. I don’t think their fortunes will change this Saturday though, I expect them to suffer a 5th straight defeat.

Derby County Team News:

Zak Whitbread, Shaun Barker, George Thorne and John Eustace are the four players missing for the hosts in this encounter as they are all out with respective injuries. The home team will play a 4-3-3 formation with Chris Martin set to be the main Striker. New signing Darren Bent is fit and could make an appearance.

Nottingham Forest Team News:

Stuart Pearce will be without the services of Captain Chris Cohen for this match up. Dexter Blackstock is the only other injury to note for Forest. The away side will play a 4-2-3-1 formation with Britt Assombalonga as their target man.

Nottingham Forest: L L L L D

Derby County have a massive advantage heading into this game as their recent form contrasts that of Nottingham Forest’s, derby have won four and drawn one of their last 5 games whilst Forest have lost four and drawn 1 of their last 5 games, based on these stats I cannot see any other outcome than for Derby to win.

Derby County v Nottingham Forest Match Betting Odds Market

Derby County are the clear odds on favourites to win this game on Saturday with a current best price of 8/11 with Ladbrokes – £25 Free Bets for New Customers. which does look good value considering they are in much better form than their opponents and are 11 places above Forest in the table.

The Draw has potential and could be a wise cover bet as the two teams have drawn 1-1 in two of the last 5 matches so perhaps putting some money on that correct score could prove to be a smart choice. BetVictor offer the best value for the draw @ 3/1 with BetVictor – £25 Free Bets for New Customers.

Nottingham Forest have struggled away from home this season and are short of confidence heading into this match so I really can’t see them getting all three points on Saturday. With that being said if you fancy them to cause an upset Bet365 provide the best odds for Forest to win @ 9/2 – £200 Matched Bonus Bets for New Customers.

Derby County v Nottingham Forest Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

The Derby County players will certainly be right up for this game on Saturday what with the prospect of potentially returning to the top of the table with a victory and with their opponents having a terrible time as of late the home team will fancy their chances of getting a comfortable win here with some nice football to please the fans.

Nottingham Forest will be desperate to take something away from this encounter, they will be keen to move back up the table after such a long time falling down it, as they have only scored 2 goals in their last 5 matches I think they will struggle to get anything from this one but I expect them to give it their best efforts and fall short.

The average goals per game statistics are suggesting that we should see at least two goals in this match and I expect that to come true with Derby scoring 2 or 3 goals and Nottingham Forest potentially picking up 1.
