Crystal Palace v Arsenal Preview, Premiership, Sunday 16th August 2015.

It was a great start for Crystal Palace in the opening weekend of Premier League action. The side travelled away from home to newly promoted Norwich City in search of a win last Saturday, and they were forced to wait until five minutes until the second half as the home side defended valiantly. Wilfred Zaha then opened the scoring before the break and it was only a few minutes after the half time mark that Damien Delaney scored the teams second of the game. Norwich City did bring one back with a Nathan Redmond effort yet sadly nothing else could be done when the home team eventually conceded again by new signing Yohan Cabaye match winner. I am as a neutral quite excited about Crystal Palace this season, they have managed to sign some quality experienced players and could pose a valid threat to Sundays opponents Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger was not best please last Sunday when his title fighting side managed to lose at home to fellow Londoners West Ham United. It was rather embarrassing for a side who managed to finish third in the Premiership and win the FA Cup last term, and I can imagine only a win this Sunday will compensate. Arsenal should of been expected to at least take 80% of points available in their opening five games, yet the loss last week could of installed some hope to their upcoming opponents Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Newcastle United and Stoke City. Losing any of these games wont be good for Arsenal as they then have to face the Champions Chelsea as well as other title contenders Manchester United.

Crystal Palace Team News:

In terms of injuries Crystal Palace are without three players for Sundays game against Arsenal. Fraser Campbell is out with a hamstring strain while goalkeeper Speroni has a bad hand. Appiah is the major injury of the three with a ACL knee ligament muscle damage. Crystal Palace have made some quality signings this summer with Yohan Cabaye joining from PSG for £10 million. While Sunderland’s best player last season Connor Wickham also joined Palace for £7 mill. Bakary Sako of Wolves joined on a free transfer which was excellent business seeing as though he was a prolific goalscorer in the Championship last season.

Arsenal Team News:

Arsenal only have the one issue with it coming as no surprise being Jack Wilshere again with his ankle. Joining Arsenal this summer there has only been the one player and although any other time I would say what an incredible deal it was with it being Petr Cech from Chelsea. The goalkeeper was the main culprit at fault last week against West Ham United which was extremely out of character.

Crystal Palace v Arsenal Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head encounters we can see it is Arsenal who have completely dominated the results with five straight wins. In fact the last time Crystal Palace have actually beaten Arsenal was way back in 1994 away from home. At home the record is even worse, with their last win at home against Arsenal coming way back in 1979 with a 1 – 0 result. that said we only have 30 games recorded it total with Arsenal winning 20 to Crystal Palace’s lowly 2 victories, meaning we have had 8 draws, most of them at Selhurst Park.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 30 games played over the years we have seen a total of 89 goals scored. This is going to give us a goals per game average of close to 3, which is a good bet for Sundays game I feel. The below option however could be a solid bet especially if both teams play to their full potential and attack.

Crystal Palace v Arsenal Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Premier League action this Sunday will be Crystal Palace playing fellow London club Arsenal which can be viewed live on Sky Sports 1 High Definition. The game looks set to be an exciting meeting betweens the two clubs in which we haven’t seen Crystal Palace beat Arsenal in over twenty years. At home the record is even worse with the last win at home being back in the 1970’s. But with the start both clubs have made we could see that record being shattered seeing as though Palace have made some solid signings over the summer and it showed with last weeks performance against Norwich City.

Arsenal however didn’t have the best starts and as a neutral I was even shocked to see them play so badly against West Ham United at The Emirates. With West Ham United beating Arsenal last week the odds have got better for Crystal Palace to win the game on Sunday and I personally do feel there’s some great possibilities for Palace to potentially shock Arsenal at their home ground. This is certainly a game I will be watching as Arsenal will need to do some serious stepping up if they wish to earn their first win of the season.

My predictions for this game does tend to mainly favour that of Arsenal, although a part of me does believe Crystal Palace could potentially serve Arsenal another upset. So with that in mind I do feel it best to back both to come out with some positive result. So for the first lets go for Arsenal to win the game two goals to nil in a correct scoreline guess. With the other being both teams to score and for the game to end as a draw, giving Crystal Palace yet again another draw at home.
