Liverpool v Crystal Palace Preview, Premiership, Saturday 16th May 2015.

While Brendan Rodgers hasn’t yet accepted defeat when it comes down to a top four finish, club captain Steven Gerrard feels the deed is too far and an unrealistic achievement. The 1 – 1 draw against Chelsea was a great result away from home although Liverpool really needed a win to have any real hopes of beating bitter rivals Manchester United to the top four finish. Now they require United to lose both of their remaining games by a heavy amount, while also themselves beating Crystal Palace at home as well as tough side Stoke City away from home, but also doing it with a high goal difference.

Crystal Palace did so well back in March and early April, and with so many positive wins it would of no doubt been the factor in their Premier League survival this season. Because in their last four games they have lost each and every won and only managed to score the once which was against Manchester United and by a free kick. Bookmakers will not fancy Palace win away from home against Liverpool although they do have a good chance of beating Swansea City in their final game of the season at home, securing a good solid mid table finish.

Liverpool Team News:

Liverpool have a long list of issues right now having recently heard that Daniel Sturridge is now out for the rest of the season. John Flanagan (knee) is also missing until the new season while Mario Balotelli (foot) could be fit. Mamadou Sakho (hamstring) could be available while Thiago Llori (thigh) is back in training. Daniel Agger (knee) we are still unsure of when he is to return, although it shouldn’t be long term.

Crystal Palace Team News:

Crystal Palace only have a couple of players on the injury list right now, yet it is only Jonathan Williams we know little about with no information on when he is to return from a groin strain. Andrew Johnson was injured back in December of last year by an unknown problem, and we are still unsure of when he is to return to action for the club.

Liverpool v Crystal Palace Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head encounters we have seen both teams come out equal with two wins each and a draw last season. In total we have 31 recorded meetings with Liverpool winning 17 and losing 7. Meaning we have also seen 7 draws in total.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 31 games played out between the two clubs we have seen a total of 94 goals scored, which is going to give us an average of 3 goals per game. Yet in the last five meetings that is slightly higher when looking at the above table.

Crystal Palace’s form has dipped dramatically and if they hadn’t of had such a good run in March and early April then they could of been struggling in the relegation zone right now. Liverpool’s form isn’t too great themselves having lost twice in their last five games, yet they are in 5th and still holding out what little hope there is of a top four finish.

Liverpool v Crystal Palace Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Premiership evening action on Saturday can be seen live at Anfield on Sky Sports 1 High Definition where we see hosts Liverpool take on an out of form Crystal Palace. Liverpool themselves need to win both of their last two games with plenty of goals, and also hope that Manchester United lose heavily to Arsenal and Hull City. This will be the only hope of Liverpool finishing in the top four and being that forth English team to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Crystal Palace are in dire need of a win here as their form has dropped dramatically in their last four games where they have lost all. Their last win came back against Sunderland in April, where they destroyed them 4 – 1 with a Yannick Bolasie hat-trick. Liverpool’s form has been up and down, and can no doubt do anything but blame themselves for their failure to finish in a top four position, especially when losing to Hull City and drawing against West Bromwich Albion in their last five fixtures.

My predictions for this game will see Liverpool see out the game in positive fashion with a solid and convincing win. So plan to take a correct scoreline of Liverpool to win 3 – 1 on the night. The next will be for a Ricky Lambert goal and for Liverpool to win the game which should be good seeing as though the striker is more than likely to start the game on Saturday, and also in dire need to prove his worth to his boy hood favourite club.
