Chelsea v Manchester City Preview, Premiership, Saturday 16th April 2016.

It’s not been the best of months for March and April so far for current champions Chelsea, with them only winning once in March against Norwich City and then this month away from home to Aston Villa 4 – 0. They have lost twice in the Champions League to PSG which in turn see them exit the competition, and as well as that are firmly routed to the middle of the league in tenth.

Chelsea have some tough games in their final six fixtures which see them face title chasing Tottenham Hotspurs and Leicester City, as well as Liverpool at Anfield and Saturdays game against Manchester City. They do also face Sunderland which have been known to cause issues to Chelsea now and then, and with them fighting for Premiership survival you just can’t safely place your money on Chelsea for the win.

Manchester City did what Chelsea couldn’t this week and that was knock out the French Champions PSG from the Champions League and head into the semi-finals of the competition. Now with Barcelona being knocked out this surely has to be the best chance the Manchester club have of finally winning this trophy. With Bayern Munich and both Atletico and Real Madrid left in the competition, I for one am not sure who will win it this season.

If Manchester City can beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this Saturday they can go third in the league temporally, or until Arsenal face Crystal Palace. City have the easier run in to the end of the season with only Arsenal left to play who hold a major threat. Today Manchester City were drawn against Real Madrid in the semi finals of the Champions League which should be an excellent fixture to watch.

Chelsea Team News:

Chelsea see the return of Diego Costa after his three match ban while club captain John Terry continues his absence due to an Achilles tendon issue. Eden Hazard is missing with a groin injury while fellow midfielder Nemanja Matic is also out with a bruised leg. Striker Loic Remy is out injured with his groin while defender Gary Cahill misses the game due to his hip.

Manchester City Team News:

Manchester City will be missing play-maker David Silva against Chelsea due to an ankle injury in which he has been playing with for some time. City are also missing their captain Vincent Kompany who could be back on Tuesday to play Newcastle United. Raheem Sterling has also made good progress with his groin injury and could also be back after missing out the last four games.

Chelsea v Manchester City Head to Head Statistics:

In total we have 139 games recorded between the two in which champions Chelsea come out on top with 55 wins. Manchester City have won 46 while also both drawing the remaining 38 games.

Chelsea v Manchester City Recent Form All Competitions (Left to Right)

Chelsea: L W D L L

Manchester City: W W D W L

Chelsea have been in dire form these last six weeks having only won twice in all competitions. They were knocked out of the Champions League and continue to disappoint while sitting in tenth. Manchester City progressed into the semi-finals this week in the Champions League and now face Real Madrid.

Chelsea may well be at home this Saturday yet are not considered the bookmakers favourites to win this match. They are actually on par with opponents City with the odds so close between the pair. Manchester City are considered to have the same chance as Chelsea to win this game which is why I am leaning more towards the draw here come Saturday. Chelsea v Manchester City Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Premiership action this weekend continues with a massive game where Manchester City could go third in the league above Arsenal, with the London club set to play Crystal Palace on Sunday. We know City can no longer win the league yet coming above Arsenal and winning the Champions League surely has to be their main focus for the remainder of this season.

The game can be viewed live via Sky Sports 1 and of course in High Definition with neither Chelsea or Manchester City a definitive favourite to win the game. The bookmakers would of backed Chelsea to win this game if they were in far better form, yet only winning the two games in the last six weeks surely has seen them finish the league much like they started it this season.

Chelsea have a tough end to this campaign with Tottenham Hotspurs, Liverpool and Leicester City left to play, and to be honest they could struggle on Saturday against City unless things start to improve at the club. They also as mentioned face Sunderland who are fighting for Premier League survival, and the last time these two met and Sunderland in the same position it was a game which actually saved the Tyneside club from relegation.

Manchester City also have a couple of tough games which does include this fixture, but they also are set to face Arsenal at the end of the season which could define where the two clubs finish. With both hoping for as high a finish as possible we do see Arsenal potentially still able to win the league, although I do see that as unlikely. Manchester City are fifteen points off the top of the table so I see it as unlikely they will finish any higher than third.

My predictions for this game are leaning more towards the draw which will also be set as my main banker bet for Saturdays game. I am going to go for both teams to score in the game also as we all know the two sides have more than enough in them to trouble each others defense. My next prediction will be for a correct scoreline of 1 – 1 which I feel has more than enough chance of coming in.
