Manchester United v Liverpool Preview, Premiership, Sunday 16th March 2014

The game of the weekend for me and one that could go either way on the day from what we have seen from both clubs this season. Manchester United are still struggling to come to terms with new manager David Moyes, although they have started to play a lot better in recent weeks and with home advantage where they have dominated proceedings against Liverpool over the years, they are certainly not without a chance to win this game.

However, Liverpool have been excellent this season and with Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling leading their attack up front, they have an attacking force that strikes fear into every defensive back line they come up against and with the United defence hardly a fortress these days, Liverpool also have a strong case of being able to win this game.

Manchester United Team News:

Manchester United manager David Moyes will be without Jonny Evans and Nani for this game as both players continue to receive treatment for respective injury problems and bothh Hernandez and Rafael are scheduled to undergo a late fitness test to see if they can be involved.

The strike partnership of Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie who have scored 22 goals between them so far this season will lead the attack up front for the hosts.

Liverpool Team News:

José Enrique and Sebastian Coates are the only two casualties for Liverpool manager Brendan Rogers to contend with, but defender Mamadou Sakho will undertake a late fitness test to see if he can make the squad as he currently struggled with a hamstring problem.

Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge will lead the attack up front and these two Premiership hitmen will be looking to add more goals to their already impressive tally of 42 goals scored this season.

Manchester United v Liverpool Head to Head Statistics:

Sunday afternoon’s game from Old Trafford Stadium will become the 162nd meeting between these two giants of the English game of which Manchester United have won 63 (40 at Old Trafford), Liverpool have won 54 (15 at Old Trafford) and there has been 44 Draws (25 at Old Trafford).

The statistics above clearly favour Manchester United to win this game as Liverpool do seem to struggle when taking on United at Old Trafford in the past as their 15 victories from 80 attempts indicates.

Recent meetings between the two clubs also favour a Manchester United victory in this game as they have managed to win 4 of the last 5 games, with Liverpool having managed just the 1 victory.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

418 Goals have been scored by both clubs in the previous 161 matches overall, which provides us with an average goals per game statistic of 2.59.

199 of those Goals have been scored in the 80 matches played between the two clubs at Old Trafford Stadium, which generates us an average goals per game statistic of 2.48.

Both of these average goals per game statistics strongly suggest that this game is likely to see between 2 or 3 goals scored come sunday afternoon and the Total Match Goals 2 or 3 Betting Market immediately stands out something we should be putting some of our hard earned cash on.

Manchester United v Liverpool Recent Form (Left to Right)

Manchester United: D D W L W

Liverpool: W W L W W

It has been no secret that the current defending Premiership Champions have struggled this season under new manager David Moyes and as we can see from their recent form statistics just 2 victories from their last 5 games is something we are just not used to seeing, so although they do have an excellent record over Liverpool, especially at Old Trafford Stadium, they do look worth taking on.

Liverpool are slowly beginning to look like the team we saw winning the Champions League title back in 2005 and as we can see from their recent form statistics, they have won 4 of their previous 5 games and although they have been defeated once, the players and fans will no doubt be confident of obtaining the right result in this game.

Manchester United v Liverpool Match Betting Odds Market

Manchester United have had a frustrating season so far, but a victory in this game could see them close the gap on the sides above them and put them much closer to securing a Champions League spot and the online bookmakers are offering up a best price of 31/20 with Bet365 (£200 Matched Bonus Bets for New Customers) for David Moye’s and his side to win this game.

The Draw has not been a result seen between these two sides in any of their previous six matches played, but with so much at stake for both clubs in this game it certainly would not surprise me in the least to see this game finish all square on sunday afternoon and this can be had at a current best price of 5/2 with BetVictor (£25 Free Bets for New Customers).

Liverpool have certainly had a much better season than their hosts and still have eyes firmly planted on securing their first ever Premiership league title, but failure to win this game could see that dream quickly disappear and I am expecting every single Liverpool player that takes to the field to give it 100% during this game and for me Brendan Rogers side look the value play here at a current best price of 2/1 with Betfred (£25 Free Bets for New Customers).

Manchester United v Liverpool Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

A very exciting game in prospect and one that will no doubt see all the pubs and bars packed to capacity on sunday afternoon in the glorious early spring sunshine the country is enjoying at the moment.

Manchester United have not looked anything close to the side that captured the Premiership league title last season and it does seem that the players are going to need this season to get used to playing the style of football that manager David Moyes demands and as such and despite their domination of this fixture over the years, I think ‘The Red Devils’ can be taken on here.

Liverpool have been a joy to watch this season and for me are still very much in the hunt for their first ever Premiership league title, but for that to happen then it is games like this that they need to win and I have every faith in Brendan Rogers and his array of world class players to get the job done.

The average goals per game statistics are suggesting this game to see between 2 or 3 goals scored on sunday afternoon so I am going to go with Liverpool to Win as my banker prediction in this game and then Raheem Sterling to Score at Anytime as my saver.
